We love the Katahdin parka from LL Bean. Super warm.

Last year we had a hand-me-down double breasted tweed-like coat from Baby Gap as well. It wasn't a total dress coat but it worked at times when the parka would have been out of place. At the same time, she's 4, as long as she's warm I don't think what coat she wears is out of place. Other than church on Sundays, we have no dressy functions this winter so I expect that the parka and her Hanna Andersson zipper fleece will be sufficient this year without having a dress coat..

It is a few weeks before school starts. Stores ARE there yet, hence the July clearance sales of anythins summer.

I have this for DD. Same age as your dd. It is adorable on! The coat says for boys, but so much of her things are unisex. It really is cute on.
