How many tax returns is enough?

logically speaking, does 1 person who makes more money utilize more government services?

Yes courts, laws, regulation of banks, tsa, etc Rich people have more to lose without a government.

I think it's a little odd that Romney obviously wanted more than 2 tax returns to vet his VP candidates, but thinks the US people should only be entitled to 1-2 when vetting the president?

Likewise, anybody trying to get a security clearance for the federal government has to provide certain tax info for 7 years.

And last-- he still hasn't released his 2011 return! I understand that he may have an extension until Oct. 15, but does that mean he is literally going to release it 2 weeks before the election? Don't you think it might be worth getting done sooner?

Priceless.

indeed.

Now McCain saw Romney's returns when he was vetted for VP. If Harry Reid's claims are false, why hasn't McCain stepped forward to assert that Romney did indeed pay his taxes? He has been entirely silent on the matter.

That isn't true, actually.

Wait, wasn't he the guy who only gave 2 years of tax returns, too?

And he probably makes more in a day than I make in a year. Are you suggesting that there should be a flat amount paid rather than a (varying) percentage?

If a family has 1 car but makes 1 million a year does their 1 car wear out the roads as much as a family who makes 40k a year with 1 car?

Is there any country on earth that does not tax on the basis of income or other revenues? You are suggesting a flat per person tax, and you would not have a government if you ran on that.

They often do. A wealthier familiy tends to run more cars. They have pools and giant lawns which utilize more of the water supply. Their children are more likely to get into the costly public flagship universities like Berkeley, U VA, and Michigan, where the states have t to pay higher salaries to keep the Nobel Laureates from defecting. They establish residences in low tax states like Texas, but spend lots of time in their pied a terres in NYC. The upper middle class tend to buy up the property near federally subsidized transit programs, like Metro, expropriating a lot of the benefits of those subsidies.
