I actually think Gabby has a better shot at a beam medal...there are some KILLER bar workers out there. Beth Tweddle, Mustafina, Komova, and the Chinese gymnasts (yeah, i don't remember which ones made finals) are all terrific.

The next women's medal should go to an American also - McKayla Maroney for vault.

No way does she get gold on bars. Komova, Mustafina and three others would all have to choke for that to happen. But her performance in the AA was fabulous.

Speaking of Maroney, does anyone know why none of the other Americans tried to qualify for the vault finals? Do they just not have second vaults that are competition-ready?

Yes. Pps are correct Gabbys bar won't hold up. However she has had a way of royally screwing up on the beam. Lets see. There are some strong vaulters and maroney is one but she is not guaranteed. I must say I can figure out how she vaults so high.

Interesting.

I know. First DCUM post to ever go off topic and not stay true to the OPs post. Interesting.

Why is that interesting?

Correct. This team seems to have spent a lot of time working on getting their Amanars consistent, and let's face it, with Maroney in the field, it's really not worth it to work on another vault. If she hits, even with minor errors, she should win by a huge amount.

Umm, actually OP did mention that Raisman didn't get a medal because of the technicality and most of the responses have been asking about the technicality and how the tiebreaker worked. So I disagree with both of you.

Go Gabby!!!

Hmm, I wonder what you're trying to say, and, hmm, how many posts have you been saying it on the last several days?

Hmm.

According to photos from her official site she is rather Eastrn Orthodox christian or interested in it and she got blessing in one famouse russian cloister for participating in Olympics http://www.aliyamustafina.ru/gallery/displayimage.php?album=48&pos=15
Did not want to ruin your hopes , but well just probably too much rumours in internet based on guessings. She did not mention her religious vies anywhere. She just has Tatar background, not a rare thing here. May be thats why they thought she must be a Muslim. But a lot of Tatar people are christians or atheists, they dont have official religion though majority are Muslims, but she was born alredy in Russia and probably accepted local tradition. Her dad btw also was a sportsmen in USSR.

I am going for USA in everything, but I honestly thought Kopova got robbed. Her floor routine was excellent and I foung myself rewatching it a couple times. Goo for Gabby still.

Maybe you forgot how her vault and beam routines went. GD had lower difficulty overall, but stuck everything. Komova got fancy on beam with an arabian and her vault was weak. Komova and Mustafina are more talented in many areas, but they are sloppy and inconsistent, real head cases at times.
