A Letter to Gun Owners

If someone had had a concealed weapon they could have shot back

And guns do not kill people, people do.

Some rural hunting communities have guns and raise their kids surrounded by guns and nobody goes crazy and they do not have a problem
But I would not like my kid to be on a playdate in a house where the guns are not locked in a safe
That would scare me too.

But if only someone could have shot back

That argument is so bad. When the SWAT team got there, even THEY could not tell which black clad person was the target. So it's just as likely that a civilian would have killed a cop.

In the case of the Giffords shooting, the one man with a gun almost shot an innocent civilian who had wrestled the gun from the attacker.

People may kill, but guns sure as hell make it easier to kill them by the dozen.

Guns from VA used in NY

The linked article of course covers the so-called Gun Show loophole. The way I look at it, there is no loophole. Commerce between private citizens can occur anywhere, including in public parking lots and including in the parking lots at the location and time of gun shows. I suppose reasonable people can differ on the current laws for private sales.

From the Virginia State Police website:

To privately sell a firearm, it is recommended that you safeguard information pertaining to the transaction such as the date the firearm was sold, the complete name and address of the buyer, and the make, model, and serial number of the firearm. The seller and buyer of a handgun must be a resident of the state in which the transfer occurs. Should the firearm ever be located at a crime scene, trace of the firearm will determine the licensed dealer who last sold the firearm and will identify the last buyer of the firearm. To have your name removed from this process, you may consider placing your firearm on consignment with a licensed dealer. This will also ensure that the firearm is transferred only to a lawfully eligible individual.

So the bottom line is that if VA guns are found at crime scenes in NY, then at least one person, and probably many people, committed crimes somewhere along way beforehand.

Bullets shot for m guns kill people. Please justify why the vendor sell 6300 rounds of ammo, to in individual didn't see it worthy of a heads up to local authorities on a moral, not legal basis. Funny this same vendor is prohibited by law from shipping out of the USA

Yes, people with guns kill a lot more people than people without guns. Just look at the statistics globally.

Guns suck. And people who love guns suck, too.

If you sell a car, you have to notify the government. If you sell a gun, you just need to write the information down in case it is ever used to kill someone. Or say it was stolen when they come looking for the owner.

So shame on us for writing "laws" and then preventing even the most obvious means of enforcement.
