How long to wait after C-section?

6 weeks? After a c/section? Please post the name of your OB so that the rest of us make sure not to see him/her. Why would you want to do that to your uterus?

Op, my OB said that he tells all his patients (including vag births) to wait a year in order to heal.

If you don't mind having another C-section, you can start trying now. If you want to VBAC, I think it's at least a year. I got pregnant 8 months after my frist c-section and had a second. Good luck!

There absolutely are guidelines. A c-section is major surgery and your entire body - not just your uterus - need time to recover. I was told that getting pregnant too soon increases the chance of uterine rupture. After mine my doc said no sooner than 9 months.

OP, you need to talk to your OB and get their expert advice based on your health, situation, healing, etc. At 34, you are not that old. I am 35 TTC and pretty sure it's taken on the first try. Don't put your health at risk by trying too soon.

Agree that this is fricking crazy. You have the worst doctor on earth. Six weeks is your general checkup just to make sure things are healing properly. Why the eff would you want to get pregnant six weeks after a c-section anyway?

You're generally told not to have sex at all for 6 weeks!

Do you agree that 6 weeks is when almost every OB recommends that you wait until you have sex? Why? Because sex has a risk of pregnancy. That doesn't mean that it's ideal to conceive at 6 weeks post pardum, but if you are having sex you are risking pregnancy.

Well, yes! I had a terrible recovery so DH wasn't getting anywhere near me at 6 weeks. He had to wait a while. Who are these horny ladies who can't wait? I was exhausted and felt like crap!

Was anyone else told to wait longer than 6 months to TTC after a c-section? I had a difficult delivery with a c-section and a complication. I recall my doc saying in passing 6 mos was fine for most but that I should wait a year. I was borderline PPD at the time so I don't know if that advice was for mental health or physical health reasons..

Op, what's the rush? Your ovaries will not wither away the day you turn 35, I promise. Don't buy into the fearmongering.

That's what my doc said -- no less than a year for VBAC, but no real limit for another csection.

My dr recommends at least 18 months between c-sections. So that would mean TTC when your kid is 9 months.

At 34, I agree with a PP, time is still strongly on your side. I would love to have more years like that.

risk of uterine rupture and subsequent potential death of baby and mother is higher if births are less than 18 months apart.

Do you have a doctor?
