How long should it take doctor to call you back after leaving weekend message w/answering service?

Why don't you take your DC to the ER and let them run multiple tests on him?

You realize that answering my OP 12 hours after I posted it is basically the equivalent of laying in bed hours after the party has ended and *finally* thinking of that witty comeback. If your reading comprehension skills were up to par, you would probably be able to understand that by calling the doc rather than taking my kid straight to the ER, I am (by your own logic) keeping down healthcare costs. But thanks for playing. Feel free to try again later.

Btw, thank you for those of you with helpful answers. The nurse we spoke with, when we got a return call, had us check on DS every 3 hours overnight, and told us to keep an eye on him for the next 24 hours, and what kind of symptoms to keep an eye out for.

I would ask at your next routine physical how long you should wait before calling back. I personally don't think I would wait an hour, because usually by the time you are calling your ped, you're pretty worried. I'd call back in half an hour. Just me.

Kids fall. It is part of childhood.

My DH is a doctor. I hate when we get woken up at night for stupid questions. He usually instructs them to go to the ER if they cannot wait for an appointment. Flame away.

I had surgery last week on a Tuesday and I went to CVS on Thursday to get my script before I went home to heal and it wasn't there. And they told me I needed to start the antibiotic tonight also there was pain medication waiting for me but no antibiotic. So I called the on-call doctor at 5:05 p.m. you know he called back at 10:30 that night 5 and 1/2 hours after I called I was sleeping. What the f. I'm telling you they just don't care they don't care if they screw up in surgery and have to do another one and have to do another one and you sit in the hospital bed for a month it's no hair up their ass but I can't get that month back. Am I searching I was supposed to go to Hawaii and because I had to have a second and third surgery I couldn't but my surgeon was leaving for vacation I swear my blood pressure went up so damn High I thought I was going to have a stroke. LOL

You are looking for concierge level of service, OP. The 1950s are long gone.

Would not bother calling about possible emergencies. They can't properly evaluate over the phone, if it is an emergency they will tell you to go to the ER, and you are 5000x more likely to be gaslighted.

My primary midwife went on a secret month long vacation that overlapped with being within a month of my due date. They do not give a F. Obviously she doesn't have to schedule my vacation around me, but she should tell me early in the pregnancy so I can decide wither I am ok with it or not. The kicker: the primary's vacation overlapped the secondary's!

80% of those questions are his fault for not giving proper informed consent, discussing common complications, red flags, "pink" flags, etc.
