Yet another post about 5-6 year old boys in the women's changing/bathroom at the pool.

I think people who get naked in public are disgraceful. I don't care what everyone else is doing- there is no reason to walk around a locker room naked. This is what group think produces... "now kids, your body parts are private- keep them covered except when everyone else is not". I'd never take my kids to a pool where women and men are walking around naked. Going to the pool is a family event- not a swingers retreat.

Now you can save all that "don't be ashamed of your body...you are so uptight...puritan...Americans are so blah blah blah" for your naked sister circle. I don't want to hear it. You aren't changing my mind so save it for your fellow naked wanderers.

Isn't the point of a locker room to change? How do you change without taking your clothes off?

I think 5 is way too young to be going into, even walking through, a locker room alone. Honestly, I think my kid would have to be 7-8 for me to be ok with that. You can't control what they see or hear if you aren't there. Teach your kids not to stare, its fine.

No the OP but glad you clarified, I was confused!

I also go to a pool where a lot of people walk around naked and to get the the pool you HAVE to go through the showers, and it is a maze to get through. 5-6 yos never bothered me when I was changing but when I was at the Y I saw kids who were probably as old as 8 in the opposite sex locker room- not quickly walking through but hanging out while Mom showered and got dressed- and I did think that was too old. A 5yo going to the bathroom or getting a quick rinse and change I think is fine.

Whether it's in a gym or pool- I've never been naked in a locker room. It never even occurred to me to get naked as if I was in my private bathroom. I NEVER would have thought, "hey, let me get naked right here out in the open." The first time I saw someone do it, I was shocked. It just doesn't make sense to me. I've done a quick change of my shirt or pants, but if for some reason my clothes need to be completely removed or my private body parts need to be exposed- I am going to go pee in a stall, and then change my clothes. I am not just going to walk around like I am at home. It's just absurd.

I think it's fine, and we are a naked family - my kids see my parts, I see theirs, they see DH's. My family was the same way until I was 8 or 9 and then my dad started being more discreet. My kids stare, I say 'yup - I have boobies and you don't'; they ask where my wee-wee is (my kids are boys) and I tell them that girls don't have them; and we move on. They are 2 and 4 and to be honest I'll feel perfectly comfortable showering with them, being nude around them, etc. until they are much older.

Some people are so uptight about nudity. But you know what? That's THEIR problem, not yours. Especially in a LOCKER/CHANGING/SHOWER ROOM! Dear god! So PP with the nudity complex? Maybe you should just stay home in your happy little bubble, and get your OWN pool.

Are you okay with your daughter at age eight being in the men's shower and men's changing room with naked men while she showers/ changes if she goes to the pool with dad?

Not the pp, but yes, of course in fine that when 2 my daughter asked my dh what that was, and he told it was his penis and boys have penises. He did that without waving it around. Shes now 4, but sometimes goes with dh into the men's locker room to use the bathroom.
