| we have one set that is poppy and yaya. another that is papa and nana and one more that is grandma and grandpa. I will make my grandchildren call us poppy and yaya. I just think it is nice. |
| meemaw and peepaw! |
| I just asked them. They all had a preference except my dad, although I know he really did. Basically, they all wanted to be called what we called their parents. So Grandma and Gramps (my parents) and Granny and Grandad (his parents). I'd recommend the default of whatever you called their parents. We were lucky because these were all different so no confusion. |

My son calls my mom Gram Gram--we started out aiming for Grammie, since that's what we've always used with my mom's family, back to my great-grandmother, but that was what he shortened it too, and it's stuck. My dad is Papa, because that's what my brother's kids called him, and it just kinda happened with us.
My husband's stepmother, despite her asking and being told that we were using Grammie for my family (now we all use it for my grandmother) refers to herself that way. Of course, she had probably downed a half bottle of Scotch when we had the conversation, so... we just call her by her first name when discussing her at home, and DH and I are just hoping she follows through on the divorce plans she made when FIL was in the hospital after a heart attack last month. Lovely woman. |
| We are the last to have kids on both sides so we had 'input' from older siblings. Neither set of grandparents are called what their parents were. My parents did not care and were called Grammy and Grampy by the first grandchild and that has stuck with them. My in-laws requested to be Gran and Grandpa by the first grandkids.... |
| I had decided on "Granddaddy" - there's only one grandparent alive - but for the longest time, DD could only manage "Granny"...which my father just loved, as you can imagine! Why I picked such a long name, I don't know. Anyway, she can manage "Granddaddy" now. |
| We use Grandma and Grandpa Pa (where they live) when refering to them..they also sign their cards like that ...and then my parents Grandma and Grandpa Scotland (ditto)...this has always worked great for everyone...kids know who we are referring too and G&G dont feel like they are at all slighted! |

We let our parents decide. Plus our children have 1.5 sets of great grandparents to play with as well. Here's the names selected:
my parents: grandma "first name", grandpa "first name" DH parents: bubbie & grandpa "last name" great grandparents 1: GGMA and GGPA great grandparent 2: Zaddie & his girlfriend's first name works for us! When I first asked my dad what he wanted DS to call him, Dad said "Sir"

My FIL is Pop-Pop though I fought this bitterly and basically lost the battle. It's fun to say, I guess.
My MIL is Grandma FirstName. My parents are Grandma FirstName and Grandpa FirstName. I thought it would be nice to have a Gram or a Nan, but nobody went for that. |
