To all you have decided to "judge" instead of actually offering advice, get a life. Obviously my daughter is a new upcoming KG, and yes 30 minutes is a huge difference for someone who is a single mother with a full time job. While I was not planning on needing any morning care since I could coordinate with my job, now I am forced to evaluate a completely different situation. And no I was not notified. For those who are single parents you should understand that we live in very tight schedules, I plan ahead to avoid being left in these types of situations. Although if I had a partner I'm sure I would have so much more flexibility, that's not the case, so I do my very best on keeping everything on scheduled for my daughters well being. THANKS!
Well, bless your heart. There are others that are not single parents that live in very tight schedules, too. No need for the vitriol. |
So I hear you saying that you might have to get before-care that you weren't planning on getting. Does that mean that you already had after care established? If so, I would coordinate with your job to stay 30 minutes later. That way, you can still take her in the morning but she'll just stay longer at after care. If you weren't planning on after care at all, why can't you shift your job schedule to the right to accomodate the new times?
I personally think the before care at our school is better than the aftercare or at least more personalized and a lot of schools that start later also have classes in the morning I noticed. Ours starts earlier, but not really early enough to have classes and it is a pain being in-between too around 8:45. I really only need before care for 15-30 minutes but if I don't pay it, I may wind up missing all sorts of meetings starting at 9:00, so I just suck up and pay it. On the bright side, with a later start time, you don't have that ridiculous long Monday afternoon at SACC from 12:00-6:00 or whatever time you pick up.
If you DD is going to take the bus please don't forget that she will be picked up alot earlier than the start time. Our school starts at 8:55, but we're first to be picked up so the bus comes at 8:05. So by 8:10 I can leave for work.
Just wait til there's a snowstorm and they CANCEL 2 WEEKS OF SCHOOL WITHOUT NOTICE. Or DD gets strep throat or the flu or pneumonia wthuot notice.
I understand that you may have not been notified personally as a parent of a rising kindergartner, but there has been information made public through various sources. It's not like FCPS keeps it a secret and then decides overnight to change the schedules. |
And OP, last year all of us with rising kindergarteners were just finding out whether there was half day or full day K in June, so consider yourself lucky that you didn't have to deal with that this year.
For gods sake give her a break!
Lol if I didn't know better I would be shocked these are mothers posting on here. Does it make you feel better? JCOIS Nova is something else.
