Confused about how much I should/shouldn't push potty training with 32 month old.

In my child development class we learned that the natural developmental age for readiness is 18 months. This is when the child's anatomy is ready. However, because we live in a world where children do not run around naked, at 18 months a child cannot "just go". He would have to know how to ask, how to undress, etc. Thus, we tend to wait until the child can do those things and than verbally ask. At this point, the child's natural urge to 'pee in a determined location' has passed. We are now waiting for him to be mentally ready. And really, when we are working, if someone asked if you wanted to go, would you immediately stop what you were doing to go pee?

Not trying to judge. I was just amazed when I learn this, so I wanted to pass it on.

i wouldn't push it, but lightly encourage it and offer incentives. Both of mine potty trained at almost 3 1/2. With DD, Dora underwear did the trick...and perhaps the year of potty DVDs and encouragement. Toilethood will be here before you know it...they grow so fast.
