Is anyone turning down PreK4 at IT?

This is a strong reason to not offer PS3 in the first place. Parents use it for free daycare and then jump ship when they get into the school they really wanted.

Seriously? Stop playing the "free daycare" card. Parents do this sort of thing at every grade level, not just PS3. You think that not a single MS or HS (Basis or Latin, for example) parent is grabbing the spot because they can - and then waiting for their preferred school to admit their child?

19:10 here. I know the parents of both children well enough to say that they definitely didn't see this year as free daycare. One family would have a nasty commute to the new location and happened to get into a nearby, well-regarded DCPS (that doesn't offer PS). The other is a dual language family that wants their child to be fully bi-literate. Both families had a very hard time with the decision because their children had great experiences at school (not daycare) this year.

I'm not trying to give anyone on the waitlist false hope. Just providing perspective on how there have been--and will continue to be changes--as people hear from other schools that are more convenient geographically and/or offer different programs of interest.

Good luck, OP!

Does anyone know whether the current PS3 classes will remain as they are, or whether they will be mixed up before moving to PK4? I'm also wondering how they will decide which kids will get into the class taught by the current PK4 teacher, and which will have the new teacher. Has anyone asked about this?

The classes will be mixed up. I suspect teachers will be assigned in August like last year.

Hold tight, OP. I expect a good amount of movement through the end of September. Many but not all parents are thrilled with the school.

That being said, we have neighbor that was in teens and was offered a spot and declined due to moving out of state. So the list has definitely moved. Good luck.

IT updated the waitlist on May 25 and the PK list has only moved through a few siblings who got put at the top of the list. There is still one sibling to go before #2 even gets a shot. So I don't think this information is accurate.
