I know of 2 children in my child's PS class who'll be giving up spots for next year--one to go to a school much closer to home and one for a language immersion opportunity. Both sets of parents made the decision after turning in theirvre-enrollment paperwork.
This is a strong reason to not offer PS3 in the first place. Parents use it for free daycare and then jump ship when they get into the school they really wanted.
19:10 here. I know the parents of both children well enough to say that they definitely didn't see this year as free daycare. One family would have a nasty commute to the new location and happened to get into a nearby, well-regarded DCPS (that doesn't offer PS). The other is a dual language family that wants their child to be fully bi-literate. Both families had a very hard time with the decision because their children had great experiences at school (not daycare) this year. I'm not trying to give anyone on the waitlist false hope. Just providing perspective on how there have been--and will continue to be changes--as people hear from other schools that are more convenient geographically and/or offer different programs of interest. Good luck, OP!
