Jeff, You are smart and you write very well. Often times I've been impressed by well reasoned prose. Unfortunately, with this post you have abused your power by using insider information to embarrass the OP. sure you need to have IP Address information for the purpose protecting the public in an variety ways, but that's not the way you used it in this instance. In this instance you used it to out, embarrass, and intimidate the OP. You may have felt that the OPs post was snarky, but it in no way justified your use of privy information to humiliate the poster. It is unethical to promise anominity and then use insider information to embarrass and humiliate your posters. |
OP you are busted. LOL |
Disagree. The OP was not identified. In order for Jeff to fully out the poster, some identifying information would have to been disclosed. Jeff simply confirmed what other readers thougth and that is that OP was more than likely, or had at some point posted on DCUM while on her employer's dime. |
| He used insider information that's not a available to everyone else. The OP was snarky not dangerous and Jeff's use of insider information was unethical. |
The only thing I disclosed was that the OP was at work. If that is humiliating to the OP, it is only because it exposes her hypocrisy. I won't be losing any sleep about that. Don't you think that the OP was trying to humiliate the teacher when she started an entire thread about the teacher's computer use? |
Unethical, No. Unprofessional, Maybe. Unfortunate for OP, Yes. |
| Good for you that you won't be losing any sleep over your unethical behavior. You seem to be quite proud of your self. After reading your writings for sometime, I'm disappointed in your failed logic that because you believed the OP was wrong that it in some relives you of your obligation to maintain the trust of posters. |
Does anyone else get the feeling that this is OP, from another IP? |
| What' up. If we disagree are you going to trace our IP Addresses???? |
Blah, Blah, blah poster... |
Are you kidding me? Do you really think that anything on the internet is anonymous? If so, I have some swamp land to sell you in Nevada. Someone is always watching. Perhaps you are feeling guilty in some way or wondering if you have been traced back to some snarky message you have posted before. Either way, climb down off of your moral majority soapbox. Clearly you are a model employee and have never done or said anything that may be considered questionable on your job. You may not have liked what Jeff did, but the offense you have taken to it does not mean he was acting outside the scope of his position. |
|
Thousands of people trust you because of your past writings where you have so often written of the importance of ethics. Yet today you have abused your power as DCUMs Adminstrator by tracing a person's IP Address. Then to make matters worse you called the OP a hypocrite. What could be more hypocritical than promising posters anominity and then tracking them down by their IP Address.
Now all you have to say is Blah, blah, blah Whatever happened to the ethical and intellectual Jeff we used know?? |
| PP that called OP a skank here. I agree that OP is way out of line. However, after thinking a lot about this I do agree that what Jeff did was unethical. He has done this a lot lately. I recall him calling out a govt worker recently as well. I am getting more concerned with the monitoring of this site and will tend not to disclose as much as I normally would because you never know if big brother is watching and if he will use it against you. I don't think I will be logging in from work ever again (at least not to post). |

Wow, DCUM goes even more ridiculous.
I was the person who wrote that comment. A few notes: -I just got home. I worked at my school from 6:30am until 6:30 pm today. That included lesson planning, prepping materials, cleaning up, staying with kids whose parents were very late to pick them up, etc etc. -When I posted that, I was one of two adults in the room. It was technically my 30 minute lunch break, which falls into the nap time that my kids have. I used the internet for personal use for roughly 10 minutes during that 30 minutes. I also ate during that 10 minutes. Other than that, I worked through the whole nap to type up assessment results from today and writing letters to parents. I could go into more explaining just how off-base you are but obviously that would not be worth my time. I hope you are able to find something of real importance to which you can channel all of this energy. |
Um, Jeff didn't write that...nice try, though, all seeing eye... |
