oh NO. The stuff doesn't work when you have a baby with a severe rash and eczema. It was a total waste for us. We used vusion. Then the ped told us how to make it ourselves (it was $250/tube). |
How do you make it? |
| Motherlove diaper rash and thrush cream is the best! |
I'm not the pp, but I am pretty sure Vusion is a mixture of plain petroleum jelly, zinc oxide, some kind of medication for yeast (whether it's prescription Nystatin or over the counter Lotrimin), and cortisone cream. I was the very first commenter on this post, and I will say that we were also prescribed Vusion for the horrible diaper rash, and unless the rash has yeast in it, the Vusion will not treat it. It's also incredibly expensive as the pp noted, depending on your prescription plan. I think we first got it for $50, then our co-pays went up and it is $90. |
| For a terrible rash in a newborn with eczema, the doctor advised us to mix Aquaphor, antifungal cream, and triple antibiotic. |

OP you really need to know what KIND of rash you are treating - general rash, allergy rash, yeast, eczema, etc.
What does it look like? General redness, sores, oozing, etc? Lanolin (the stuff for your boobs) is fabulous on diaper rash! It provides a barrier so pee/poo doesn't sit right on the rash and make it worse (and protects healthy skin to prevent rash). Also, it's totally CD safe, OP you mentioned trying cloth, no special precautions need to be taken. And you can pretty much get it anywhere - target, cvs, grocery store, etc. |
| My daughter is 7 months old and has been on 4 antibiotics in the past 2 months. The first 3 antibiotics did not affect her. She is on Augmentin for the first time and it is tearing her little tummy up! I change her immediately after she is wet or stinky. She has developed a diaper rash for the first time. I tried the walmart brand of Destin but she screamed and I realized it was burning her skin. I was then told to try butt paste...again she screamed and it scorched her skin. We came to realize, she has her mommy's allergies. I am allergic to neosporin because of the zinc in it so I can not use any of the pastes that people use. I am now using the baking soda/water mix with wash clothes instead of wipes, maalox and sprinkling corn starch in her diaper to help with absorption. I was thinking about making a mix of vaseline, maalox, and aquaphor to rub on her. Was curious what everyone's thoughts were on that. |
| You may need to keep diaper off awhile to "air her out"...I did this a few times. Also only use extra sensitive wipes |
| Are you sure that it isn't a yeast infection instead of just a regular irritating diaper rash? |
