i didnt realize blacks were the only group opposed to gay marriage.
so white, hispanic, etc are not against gay marriage too? |
There's an obsession with shaming black people. |
Do you understand how crazy you sound. I am African American, aka Black. I would not vote against same sex marriage, but people like you could cause me, and like-minded voters, to not vote on the issue at all. Frankly, I cannot find myself to vote against it, but I can definitely choose to not vote for it. Bigot, that is what you are. |
Yeah, I don't get it. Stop trying to shame Black people into voting for your cause. Go home and shame your family members. They are the ones who are secret voting against you. |
Are you responding to the first quoted poster or the second quoted poster? Because I am the second poster. I'm AA, and the portion of my post that you bolded was a question (a question to which the answer is obviously no), not a statement. |
I think people are so fanatical about finding someone to blame that they focus on that instead of finding ways to actually move people over to the side of marriage equality. Organizations like NOM and some Mormon groups pour millions of dollars into convincing people to vote to ban same-sex marriage. Pro SSM groups need to put equal or greater effort into convincing people that marriage should be an option for all adults regardless of sexual orientation. And the way to do that would be to target the actual reasons some groups tend vote against same-sex marriage. Across all racial groups, the biggest reason is overwhelmingly religiosity. |
1123 again
so let me get this straight. me and "my people" (i.e. black) are the sole reason why gay marriage wont pass in maryland? can we assume that the black legislators who voted for marriage equality in maryland would vote for it on the ballot in november? what does that do to the 100% of blacks will vote against gay marriage claim? also, can you provide me statistics showing that 100% of us killed gay marriage in the other 32 states that put this up for a vote while you are it. if i knew we had this much power, i would call on us to put a bunch of things up on ballots in every state during our monthly black people meetings |
Exactly. Don't forget to send me an invite to these monthly black people meetings! I need to know what "our" opinion is so I can make sure to vote exactly the same as every other black person! ![]() |
Not a monolith just a bloc that votes 95% for the Democrat on the national ballot. |
And do you know why that is? Our country has a two-party system. Within each party, there are people with wildly varying views. Some groups people vote overwhelmingly for one group because it just makes sense. It doesn't mean you agree with everything, but it makes sense to vote for a party who doesn't go against your best interests. I'm not a Republican in part because as a woman, it wouldn't be in my best interest. |
If you're black, do you think it's OK to put gay marriage issue up for a vote at all? If so, why?
What if the Civil Rights Act had been put up to a vote -- and a majority in 32 states decided not to allow blacks to vote? Would you have been ok with that? |
Ha ha! Actually your cause is doomed! If the legalization of gay marriage doesn't happen now, it will happen in just a few years. The old guard is passing away and the young people who are coming into voting age have a very different perspective. We're going to live in a better world thanks to them! Thanks, guys! ![]() |
The Civil Rights Act wasn't an act that granted blacks the right to vote. Really, if you're going to use this ineffective tactic as a means to shame black people into supporting gay rights, at least get things right. I'm pro-SSM, by the way. |
im not sure why there is such hostility on black people in this thread.
first off not all of us are against gay marriage. second, throwing the civil rights act and that entire era wont win you any supporters. the civil rights era and the act is much more involved than to wrap the issue of marriage and contrast that with the full rights of an entire race. but if thats what you think will get blacks to "side" with you, good luck with that. finally, we (ie blacks) arent the group/race that stopping gay marriage from being a reality. nobody has suggested that but the hostility seems to make me think some of you act as if were that one voting block thats preventing gays from being married. i think thats false |
You aren't doing much to help, either.
