How do we feel about Kia Sorrentos?

So overpriced. Like, $30,000 for a Kia? No way. No way! Plus, in college, I worked at a restaurant with a girl who drove a little Kia car. This thing sounded like it was 20 years old- squeaked when it was cranked, clanked horribly while driving. I swear to God I thought this thing had to be at least 10 years old. It was three years old! I don't know if they're made better now but that car convinced me to never buy a Kia, no matter what.

I always expect to see a hamster behind the wheel of that one Kia cuv.

Kias are fine.

DCUMers remember when Hyundai first arrived, so their impression of these Korean cars were crap (rightfully so).

They've come a long way though, but brand images are hard to change (like 10+ years and they need to ride in one first).

Ok then what suv can we get that is affordable like a Kia but won't make ppl think we spend our weekends at applebees.

Consumer Reports gave the 2011 Kia Sorrento good ratings, but the reliability rates aren't so good. Other car reviewers also gave it good reviews. It's also made in Georgia and has the great 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. obviously i seriously looked into it. i test-drove it and liked it, but ultimately went with the highlander. i also couldn't get over the whole "it's a kia" thing.

I bet op lives in Arlington.

I remember in the early 70s when people first started driving Hondas and Datsuns (now Nissan) and EVERYONE was saying they were pieces of crap, ugly, wouldn't be caught dead in one, etc.

Like PP said, it just takes time for everyone to adjust to brands and normalize them. Drive the Kia, if you like it then buy it. Screw everyone else and their opinions. When they start making your car payment then their opinion can carry some weight.

My ILs rented a Kia Sorrento when they came to visit. Maybe you can rent one for a few days and see if you like it.

FAIL, OP. Just...........................FAIL!! SMDH

OP, you really care THAT much about what people will think about what you drive? Did you ever stop to think that other people might not give a damn? Or that some people think those who spend $50k on a car are idiots?

Consumer Reports gives Kia cars rather good recommendations.

Says a poor person.

No, says someone who thinks that only shallow people judge others by their vehicle choice.

Geez, never knew a car brand could be so controversial. We have a 2011 Sorento and love it. Bought it because you get a ton of features for the money (V6, GPS, back-up camera, heated seats, etc.) it has an awesome warranty, it looks good and yes, Consumer Reports gives it great marks.

And no, we don't eat at Applebee's or shop at stores for poors (unless you count JCrew as a store for poors--I have a horrible JCrew addiction).

Let me guess. You wasted $80K for a Lexus SUV and feel all superior about it. Are you one of those overpaid Big Law lawyers? Or married to one?

It's a car, FFS! Find one that you like and buy it.

I will never understand why some spend so much money on a depreciating asset.

When I was buying my last car - the salesman could not stop talking about how great the Kia was. Same engineering that the car i purchased has, same “stuff” under the hood etc.. Fantastic repair/warranty plan. He told us how he just bought one for his wife and she loves it and they quality is top notch. This is all from a salesman who was selling me a “luxury” car. He said he would not for a minute think lower of anyone driving a Kia because they had really changed over the past few years even though some people cannot get over the old image that it’s a “cheap car”

We had one as a rental when my vehicle was in the shop and it was ok (I don't remember the exact model). I prefer something with more power. Enterprise was the rental company.
