So you agree as well that there is nothing to "flaunt." Doubtful kids would be bragging and being nasty if parents weren't placing undue pressure and import on AAP. Based on statements like the one I quoted, the divisions don't seem to be coming exclusively from FCPS. |
| No, these are parents reacting to their children and their disturbance over the issue. Process started by FCPS, not parents. |
| I have not experienced any of this from my son's school. I never even told ds he was going into a different class, he had no idea there was any AAP application process, etc. He certainly knows now, but, we also discussed how it is highly inappropriate to "brag" about being in AAP. I used an analogy about how he would feel if a classmate made fun of him for not being as good a baseball player as they are. If this is happening, it is 100% the parents. |

A bit late to this thread. Went to the spring hill orientation yesterday -- children were invited. We thought the children would be with other children already in the program, but that is not what happenned.
But children and parents were together listening to the presentation. It was geared toward adults and my DS, who listened to very word, really lost it. He was so anxious after listening to how much work they would have to do and how hard it would be. Anyway -- we are now seriously considering "fit" for the program given our child's anxiety issues. (Not the first time this has come up for him.) Just wanted to alert other parents on the off chance they too have a child who might be scared by the rhetoric. There was little to nothing about it being fun -- about deeper learning, etc. |
Your child will probably be ok. Maybe they just want to say you need to work hard, which your child probably does anyway. I am sorry it was not fun. |
| Orientation is May 7, My daughter found out from one of her smart friends. Talk is brewing. What will the weekend look like? I hate this process. |
