I live in the District. NoVa looks to me like a poorly planned, traffic snarl full of malls and sports fields. I like being able to walk to museums, cafes, playgrounds, and bookstores.

Many of my colleagues moved to VA for the schools, but they didn't really bother to have scholarly homes, so their kids turned out to be mall rats and jocks, since that's what there was to do in their neighborhoods.

I also don't want my kid celebrating Confederate history day, nor am I interested in supporting bans on gay marriage and mandatory ultrasounds with my tax dollars.

Also, taxes don't lead to crime. The best predictor of crime is the unemployment rate for men 16-25, hence low tax, high crime states like LA and MS.
