NCIVF - Is it just a marketing tactic?

that smiley face should be an eight.

Interesting about GW and NCIVF, doesn't sound like they are the place to go if you really feel this is the best option. Anyone been to New Hope in NYC?

SGF has an article on their website dissing it so it must be a gimmick.

I wish I had this option but with PCOS you need the drugs, but I'm dealing with OHSS and it's miserable.

I really don't care if it's a marketing ploy, it worked for us.

I don't think the work 'Gimmick' is appropriate here. Its just a different way of trying things. Overall chances are logically lower, because there is only one egg, but my doc explained to me that IF you get to transfer, changes of success are better because your body is producing what it needs naturally, nit via meds. PLUS you have the added benefit of no medication, which is also the easiest, most cautious thing to do.

Yes that article is scary, but there is still a small number of children that develop leukemia.

Great more things to worry about

I'm amused that someone would call NCIVF a gimmick. It works for some, it doesn't work for others. For us, it was successful. Secondary infertility, age 38, NCIVF worked on the first try, and DC is now healthy and thriving.

Is NCIVF right for everyone? Of course not. But if you're a strong candidate, I say it's absoltely worth considering. Physically, I found it to be a surprsingly easy process, and it's so much less expensive that you can try a few cycles for the same amount of $$$ as stimulated IVF.

Again, it's not for everyone, but I would trust the doctors at Dominion to make that assessment. I also would trust your gut, OP. If you're questioning your current doctor to that degree, do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. Trust is VERY important here.

Good luck.

The original IVF was natural cycle. I'm glad it's come back because it is good to have options.

It worked for us. I was a poor responder, and got the donor egg speech from my Shady Grove doctor. I was only getting 1-3 eggs from stimulated IVFs anyway, and those were mostly low quality embryos. I thought that the stims were adversely affecting the quality, so rather than do donor eggs, I decided to switch to Dominion Fertility & do NCIVF. It was much easier than stimulated, and it worked for us. It did take us several tries. The first time, we got a great embryo and I had a chemical pregnancy. The next couple of tries, we had to cancel due to LH surge & no egg at retrieval. The fourth try, we succeeded & now have a healthy baby girl. If you have to cancel, they refund a lot of your money. Out of pocket, it ran us about $13K total (for the four cycles).

FWIW, I really respected my doctor at SG, and I would have stayed there if they had offered natural cycle. I asked him if he would do it for me, but he refused. I read the article on their website, and I think that some of the stats are wrong, at least if you're looking at Dominion. I also think that some of their points aren't valid regarding cost, since it costs much less than a stimulated IVF.

Even Dominion's stats aren't great though, especially for my age group. I don't know if we just got lucky or what, but it worked for us and we couldn't be happier. We had just gotten to the point where I wouldn't do another stimulated IVF, and we didn't want to turn to donor eggs (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

Pp I agree it is so much easier than stimulated IVF, we are on our second round.

Shady Grove is all about the stats--and per cycle, there is no doubt natural cycle IVF success is lower overall, at least for the general population.

However, I'm moving to min stim/nat cycle because 1) maybe it is the drugs crapping out my eggs 2) I can do three min stim/natural cycle for the same price as one IVF, giving me three chances instead of 1, plus my body won't overload on meds 3) there is some evidence it's better for AMA gals like me.

We opted for it because of male factor, it may be a marketing thing for some clinics that will do it only if patients insist on it, but for us it worked so call it whatever.
