No, just all the DC urban parents. This explains why they seek educational counselors, shrinks and so much wisdom from this Board. |
I think several posters are saying, yes, there can be harm in tutoring a kindergartner. Burnout, for one. And resenting the parent who is cancelling playtime, for another. And like an earlier PP, I too have heard that kids learn many important skills from just playing, for example swinging on the jungle gym helps with spatial perception and geometry down the road. |

Then why does everyone in this society tutor their kids from math, soccer, piano, chess, SAT and violin?
Do kids ever get burnt out from sitting on the couch watching TV or playing video games? |
Perhaps other posters have kids that are not monkeys and have more grams of cerebrum. |
Not the poster you're responding to, but you are a sorry individual. |

Yup, you will find like minded parents at Kumon. My son will enter k next year and is reading fluently at a second grade level. He has been going to Kumon for math enrichment. When I enrolled 6 months ago I asked the owner if she knew what schools her kindergartners attended. She told me my neighborhood school had a few students who have been in the junior kumon program so I am not worried he will be bored in school since there will be other advanced kids there too. if you don't want to do kumon you can buy math books from singaporemath.com and work through them. |
