I agree ,child #1 was very lucky to have been moved to top of wait list. Placing child #2 after other siblings and near the top of wait list is appropriate.
If my child were #1 on the wait list, and bumped down by this procedure, I would be very angry at the unfairness of automatically placing the forgotten child as #1. by the way, sounds like EL Haynes process. |

thank you all for your response. i appreciate it. due to local issues, the process is much more complicated
which i don't have the liberty to go into. if you had more information, you might feel differently but going on the limited info, your responses are validated. sorry i cannot go into it more but the family has asked me to be as vague as possible. unfortunately there is no president set for when something like this happens. again thanks for your valued time! |
| This whole thread feels fishy. In any case, this family was very fortunate to receive the top waitlist spot for child #1 and having child #2 placed at the end of the pack of the other "sibling of newly admitted" seems very fair. By the way, when child #1 received the top waitlist spot were there any siblings of current students who got bumped? I hope not. |

no siblings got bumped as they had priority status going into the lottery and were already admitted.
please remember, that child #1 never had a chance of being drawn in the first place and where we are, priority status for siblings is held in very high regard. i know this is a dc forum but i could find no other information on the web pertaining to this issue, so i decided to pose the question here. this family is not in dc and i imagine that state law could or might be different concerning sibling enrollment where this has happened. sorry, didn't mean to be fishy. just doing due diligence for a friend. again, thanks for your input. |
| Sounds like #1 got an awesome break and #2 is not harmed. I bet the other parents on the list of #1 would be royally peeved if they knew. |
Yes, and remember that child #1's odds of getting the #1 spot on the waitlist (had his/her paperwork been properly included in the lottery) were not good. And now that child has even been admitted. So all in all, this family ended up better than they could likely have expected. And I fail to see why this family, who has seriously WON the lottery feels it should get additional special treatment above the other eight families who are in the same situation. And I think this is getting fishier. Now they aren't even in DC? I don't buy it...you're just worried that people will figure out who they are now since you divulged that there are eight families on the waitlist that are "sibling of newly enrolled" and people can figure it out. |
| If the child is #1 on the waitlist and we're still in the month of June, I fail to see the emergency. Unless you're talking about pre-school the child should get in. |
