feedback on boy and girl names, please?

Can some explain the dislike of Mary? I think it's a nice name and I'm surprised at how many people really don't like it!

I like Kevin, Anna, and Mary. Not really a fan of Erica and Patrick just okay to me.

I like Kevin and Erica.

We know 5 zillion Annas and not a fan of Mary. Patrick seems to get shortened to Pat, which I don't prefer.

Yeah, what is up with that? Mary is my mother's name and I always wanted to use it but only had boys. I never think of a religious connotation, but is that the problem for some people?

Lady Grantham.

Mary is a classic name. You hardly ever hear it any more for little girls. I think it's a great name.

I would recommend staying away from the "alternate" spellings. Your child is going to have to correct people all their life on the spelling of their name. Erica is more standard and is what many people will just assume. If you pick Erika, you and she will be spelling that name daily for the rest of her life. I've seen a number of people who have been frustrated by alternative spellings of their name bestowed on them by their parents.
wow
the kid will be branded

I bet that Erika is asked to spell her name as often as Erica
Makes no difference. But if your surname is German, Erika makes more sense

All bad.

I'd choose Anna.

Love Patrick.

No strong feelings on any of the girl names.

That's a good association! (but the only good one for Mary - very old, dreary name)

it depends on your social circles. In upper NW, we know tons of little girls named Mary. Same with Anna.

If it's classic, it's popular here.

I like Erica just because it's so unexpected on a little girl.

I'd scratch all of these except Anna or Mary.

I understand though that boy names are really really tough to come up with having recently done this myself.

For boy names, again this is tough, but what about Joseph? You could call him Joey when he's little. or Christopher?

that's stupid. i know plenty of non religious people who would be okay with the name mary.

It doesn't sound classy enough like Ayvah or sexy enough like Sophia or Isabella or Olivia. Just kidding! - I think all of these names are so ugly, in my opinion. I love Mary. Years down the road, your daughter might thank you for not giving her an ugly name or WT sounding name. Sophia - the cow? Olivia - like popeye and olive oil? Isabella?? like that ugly queen from 400 years ago or something?

I love Mary! Adorable for a little girl and a name she can grow into imo. I have never heard dislike for it like this.
