I never imagined we would be interested in orivate as an option because we own a house in Arlington but after being overseas with a DC enrolled in a private pre k with an IB PYP program I am not sure I want my kids enrolled in a school that only pushes for SOLs at the expense of creativity...I have no idea if our kids will be a good match for any private schools but it is reassuring that we could try to appky from overseas. Did you rely on FLO at all or is that a joke? Thanks again and good luck with yoyr DC tour!

Arlington public schools are amazing. I'm so impressed with the creativity our teachers use to teach my kids despite the SOL nonsense. Waaaay better than some of the craptastic international and DoDDs schools I went to as a Foreign Service kid! (The worst was the missionary school, oh man oh man). At such a young age, I would at least try the publics and save your money to send your kid to private college.

Ah, but it was a great way to grow up; I loved every post!

thanks PP, this is OP. I am glad you enjoyed yoyr life as a FS kid. it is certainly challenging as a family. We are not due back in DC until 3 years from now so we will have to see what kind of kid our oldest will become by then. I agree APS is a darn good system and I know several teachers and administrators....I just worry about the foucus on testing and the smaller/ shorter times given to free play, recess, the arts ....so we will have to see. I am glad to know we would not neceesarily be shut out just because we would not be joining a private for the full 12 years.
