I would also be interested in hearing if there is any movement from 4th to 5th in the waIt list?

Yes, most likely, depending on numbers. The principal has said she will add a class as needed.
Very, very, VERY important to enroll early for Kindergarten this year so the numbers are clear and they know who to hire. Let all your neighbors know (enrollment and re enrollment starts April 1st!)

Do you mean fourth or fifth grade?

We are #57 on the WL for 2nd grade - think we have a shot?

No, there won't be any OOB kids accepted in any grade this year.

In case this was not clear, this means - that they will not take anyone off of the OOB lottery this year.

Saying that K is huge is not the same thing as saying that there will be no OOB enrollment for any grade level. Could the PP please clarify?

There is NO OOB enrollment at Janney at any grade this year. I'm not sure why they held the lottery for any grades beyond PK because it's meaningless.
Anonymous
Janney is projected to be over-capacity w/o adding any OOB, so no OOB absent an August surprise.

I think that all DCPS schools, with the exception of the high school application magnets, have to do a lottery for every grade they serve in the event that an unexpected opening occurs.

I don't understand why one would say that there will be NO OOB enrollment at any grade? Why would there be the lottery then? And what happens if spots open in 5th due to students leaving for Latin or Basis??

Sorry, I meant 5th grade.

The school is over-capacity. If students leave, the school will continue to be over-capacity. A lot of students would have to leave - which won't happen - for the school to have room for more students. Janney isn't taking OOB students, so no matter where you are on the waitlist, you probably won't get in.

students don't leave for Latin or Basis. Something like 95% of students go on to Deal and the rest mostly to private.

How do you know students won't leave for Basis? The school is just starting this fall.

Also, unless this overcrowding issue is relatively new to this year (which I doubt it is), it is not true that Janney does not take any OOB students. I know for a fact that my neighbor's daughter got in last year OOB for 5th grade.
