Gore is quite articulate, wouldn't you say? And he does not look perpetually confused. |
I REALLY HOPE that if Obama loses that his loss will be chalked up to "racism." Please don't try to force people to support Obama because he's African-American. If Condi were running I would be really excited, and a big supporter. I agree with her views, not Obama's. |
Based on actual academic records, he's also stupider. |
that was for 16:23, re:Gore ![]() |
16:40 here. I meant that I really hope that Obama's loss will NOT be chalked up to racism. |
So, children of privilege get special breaks, regardless of whether they're Democrats or Republicans. That's news? |
LOL. I know a lot of stupid MBAs who would be terrible presidents -- don't you? And for the record, I'm not judging people w/ MBAs -- I have a J.D. and I'd say the same thing about plenty of lawyers. A degree doesn't necessarily indicate intelligence or experience, just like bad grades don't necessarily indicate stupidity. No, in Bush's case, degrees and grades aside, it's his actual mistakes in action that lead people to conclude that he is a colossal failure as our leader. |
It may be hard to tell. I had friends who were big supporters of Bobby Jindal the first time he ran for governor in Louisiana. Jindal was far enough ahead in the polls that they were already house hunting in Louisiana and they were stunned when he lost to Kathleen Blanco. Now, I didn't have a horse in this race. I'm not from Louisiana and I heard that Blanco was nearly as conservative as Jindal, so it wasn't like I was rooting for either side (BTW, I don't share my friends' conservative politics). But you've sure got to wonder why Jindal didn't win the first time when his lead seemed so solid. Did it get down to it that when push came to shove, some Louisiana voters just couldn't bring themselves to vote for a brown man with a funny name? Now of course post Katrina, Jindal is in the governor's mansion and being talked about as a possible Republican VP candidate. But did some voters just find him too different for their liking, despite his politics? This is all speculation on my part. Anybody know more about this race want to comment? |
One pro for Blanco might be her gender. Polls tend to underestimate performance of female candidates. This is one reason Hillary was outperforming expectations after Iowa (and why she would have been a stronger candidate than Obama IMO). Sort of s reverse gender Bradley effect, but usually attributable to larger female turnout, and secondarily to men ashamed to tell the pollster they are voting for the woman. |
I posted earlier but I just have to add- calling people who don't support Obama racist is deeply offensive. I am a lifelong Democrat, I purposefully send my children to a very integrated school, and am married to a man of color with a foreign sounding name. I am in agony about this year's election. I personally survived 9/11 watching the towers fall, and am incredibly security focused as a result. I hate this war and GWB. But I think Obama has shown reckless tendencies, and I am not impressed with the people he surrounds himself with as advisors. I remember the first Clinton term, and am not looking forward to four years of similar mismanagement as he catches up to the learning curve. GWB has nearly destroyed this country. I want my country back. But I don't think Obama will be able to deliver it. I am depressed about the choice I have. But after a painful primary season when anyone who didn't support Obama was regularly called a racist, the last strategy Obama supporters should be employing to try to woo my vote is the same offensive tactic. I am leaning against Obama now, and this does not help bring me back into the fold. I repeat, no one is *obligated* to vote Obama because he is black. |

17:43 again -- Very interesting, pp, I hadn't thought of that! I'll have to do some googling about the Blanco-Jindal election. Must be some interesting back stories there. |
I don't think anyone is obligated to vote for Obama b/c he's black but I think plenty of people will NOT vote for him soley because he's black. This country is not ready for a woman or a minority person to be president...as a minority person in segregated DC, I see it all the time. I'm fully convinced that if Jesus himself came down as a minority person, he wouldn't have a shot at winning the presidency. |
Why? Are you saying that there is not a significant number of people who would not vote for a black man. |
Not everyone who is not voting for Obama is a racist, I get that. But I DO know quite a few people who are not voting him for that reason specifically. A few of the Dems in my family are switching to McCain soley because they do not want a black president. It is sad, and I am still voting for Obama...but the race factor will sadly be a big issue for many people. My family scoffs at my Obama sign everytime they come over, but they scoff at the whole neighborhood too! They are the only McCain supporters I know in Arlington. |
