Tangential comment but based on the recommendation I just searched for these on Netflix. They don't have them and their alternative suggestions (I guess based on the letters in the name) included Gary Busey and Stockard Channing. The Busey thing is a little scary!

Timmy Time (spin-off with the little lamb from Shaun the Sheep). It's claymation and set in a preschool- each episode has a "lesson" hidden. And they're short too!

Blues Clues, for sure.

Martha Speaks for an older (4+) intellectual kid.

2.5yo LOVES the Wonder Pets. Once you get past all the singing, it isn't horrible for adults to watch. We just started watching Little Einsteins this week. DS has never participated with tv shows, but he actually did with this one. It's kind of cute actually, they have an artist and composer for each episode - they ride in their rocket ship and ask your child to help them out with tasks along the way (clapping, marching, and other body percussion type things). It is pretty slow paced visually.

Wonder Pets & Blues Clues. You have Bob the Builder already right? Caillou, although he is one whiny kid. Clifford the Bug Red Dog, Mister Rogers.

Do y have WETA Kids? I love it. When they're older, Sid the Science Kid, Super Why and Word World are awesome.

20:20 here, sorry, didn't notice your Bob the Builder comment. I think Blues Clues might be your speed. On PBS Sprout is Kipper and the Berenstain Bears, maybe even Pajanimals?

OP here. We've tried Bob the Builder but it's the kind of thing I want to avoid. It's not slow paced at all--they don't show any task from start to finish, jump scene to scene, tons of movement, etc.

Pocoyo. It's on netflix. It focuses on one small situation per episode, and they are only 10 min. It's so cute!! The characters are energetic but the plot and action are simple.

I'll second Max & Ruby. My 4yo loves it and it's so low key.

Then there's good ol' Thomas the train...

Same as others, but my. 2.5 year old loves:

Super Why
Caillou (agree with PP -- so whiny!)
Berenstain Bears
Little Bear
Thomas
Max & Ruby

And I totally agree about Bob the Builder.

We like Little Bear, Franklin and Francis (not very many). My older son likes Dinosaur Train.

OP, slightly off topic but have you read The Tipping Point? The chapter on Blues Clues goes into the psychology of a pre-schooler to explain why the show was so popular with children (even if not so interesting for adults). Gladeell compares the show to Sesame Street. Seems like you'd find it interesting.
