It's not you, it's me - Do you ever feel like no one understands or "gets" anything that you say?

OP here, glad to see that it is not just me. I am also a hand talker and one of those folks who looks around when I really get into what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I sometimes start telling a story, but then I always have side opinions and caveats that I start inserting before I even get to the main part, so people are often wondering what I am talking about. I get annoyed at myself sometimes, but this is just how my brain works.

On the other hand, I have a colleague who does something similar, and we work really well together, and when we are in bigger meetings, I often feel like I am translating for him...

PP, please learn to give your opinion concisely. Side opinions and caveats drive me wild and take way too long. It's okay over lunch but please, please get to the point in meetings. Crisp and clean speaking is powerful.

No, thanks. You don't know what I do for a living, and the way my brain works is actually more of a benefit than pleasing you in a meeting would be. And for what it's worth, I don't have one of those jobs where we sit around at meetings all day, so I really don't care.

Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living?

That's your education. What do you do for a living - teach, research with a team?

Okay, I get paid to do research. Sometimes with a team, sometimes alone. I don't teach anymore, although I'd like to get back into it.

So your job involves brainstorming, not one way directional conversation. Got it.

NP here. Seems D.C. is all about what the next guy is doing and how to take him down. Funny. Wouldn't peoples time be better spent on themselves?

PP I get it. You're a physicist. You are smarter than most of us, certainly the DCUM crowd. Live long and prosper

Hey, totes unfair. Reread what I wrote. I was sympathizing with OP, got criticized to learn how to talk gooder, responded no thanks (see I'm very polite), and then proceeded to answer all y'alls questions. I actually don't think I'm any smarter than the rest of you (ok, I do think there's a place in dumb hell for most of you lawyers) but I was just engaging on what I thought was an interesting thread about something I share in common with the OP. But, as usual, I know self-defense doesn't read well on dcum, so I'll get back to work and catch y'all on the flip side.

LOL seems like you don't understand simple questions, Mr. or Ms. Physicist. Could be why people don't understand you - you don't answer the question that was asked. Funny.
