No, this is just an area where I choose to be lazy. |
| Once or twice a year, I make up a big batch of mac and cheese for a party, along with other stuff, of course. From scratch, no boxes. I have never served chicken tenders, unless you are talking about cutting up the actual tender from the breast, as I do that fairly frequently because it is generally close to an accurate portion. |
I'm sorry...you are trying to compare the health of processed, powdered cheese to home cooked mac and cheese? Seriously? |
My mom makes my kid the "real" mac and cheese w/ expensive cheeses from whole foods and he hates it. he would rather have kraft. |
| Macaroni and Cheese is not a healthy meal anyway/any how. |
I made homemade mac & cheese at xmas & my kid wouldn't touch it. She prefers the box. She probably has some form of box mac & cheese once every week or two. Nuggets, less often, mostly because the ones that are actual chicken pieces are not so cheap and the other ones gross me out. She eats hot dogs, too. The horror! |
| I guarantee that there will be exponentially more DCUMs posting to proclaim that their precious spawn vastly prefer cauliflower/kale/quinoa to macncheese or chicken nuggets, than there will be posts from parents who cop to daily servings...and I'm also willing to bet most of the posts swearing that Ava/Jack has only tried macncheese once and hated it come from FTMs with kids under 2yo.... |
| We have it once every week or once every other week. I can't stomach it more than that; it is fine as a sometimes thing but I don't want it more often than that. And I am not cooking a separate meal for DS, he can eat what we have or have a PBJ, cereal or yogurt. |
|
I never make mac and cheese of any kind. My kid doesn't like it, and my husband and I don't like it, either.
I don't keep any kind of chicken tenders in the house, and we only end up at McDonald's or similar fast food joints a couple times a year (usually when we are on a road trip and that's the best option). But DS may choose chicken tenders off the menu at a restaurant occasionally, but he usually prefers other things. And, no, I don't think this makes me superior to anyone else, just answering the question. |
|
Never - but only b/c my kid won't eat them. He hates cheese! I think b/c he had a slight allergy and we didn't give him any early, now it is a texture thing, I guess.
Chicken nuggets - he hates breading. So we give him roasted chicken breast instead and he eats that up. |
|
Ds hates mac and cheese. He prefers plain pasta with butter and parm.
He's so-so with chicken tenders. Not something that we eat regularly, maybe a few times a year at a restaurant. I think he eats McNuggets once or twice a year, when we visit a McDonalds on a road trip. |
|
My kids also prefer Kraft Mac & Cheese over the homemade, but lately they want Velveeta. We eat homemade chicken nuggets.
My youngest one eats only plain noodles. We used to have it quite often (at least once a week) before they went to school. Now they don't even want mac & cheese for lunch. |
| What’s worse than powdered cheese? The Outback Steakhouse mac and cheese recipe. Equal parts of heavy cream and Velveeta - ugh. We make it about once a month because the kids love it and even take it to pot lucks because it’s a hit. Chicken nuggets, no, unless we’re on a car ride and grabbing fast food. |

I don't keep track- but rather frequently. I try to buy "decent" chicken nuggets at WF and TJ's-- all white meat, baked or minimally processed. As for mac-n-cheese, DS will eat all brands, and it's a great "go to" meal when he can't hold out and eat dinner with us at 7 or whatever. I'll make a box and reheat small portions of leftovers for him along with fruit, veggies, peanut butter and crackers, etc.
My son isn't picky, though-- he eats a good variety of things. I see no harm in letting him this stuff as well. I fear that if I deny him chicken fingers and BBQ and ketchup, he's going to go on some sort of binge later in life. DH's mother was very strict (also very poor)-- they never had anything treat-wise (she didn't even let them have chocolate, they got carob instead). They all went nuts-o when they had their first jobs as teens. SIL worked at a bakery and brought home day-old donuts that they all gorged on. They spent all of their money on fast food, and now every last one of them is overweight- most are obese. |
It doesn't matter where you buy nuggets they are all processed, do you think those nuggets grow on a chicken. The only un processed chicken is whole pieces. Fyi I think processed food is great and a steps forward in technology just make sure you know the ingridients and nutrition. |
