Is there a bank that doesn't charge a monthly fee?

PP who suggested direct deposit here: Oh sorry, I realize now that I take direct deposit for granted and assumed you had it - and I shouldn't have!

I am with Wells Fargo. They don't charge me a fee. I am a nanny and don't have the option of direct deposit either.

Can't you just google "banks with no fees"?

Also, most banks waive account fees if you set up direct deposit. It takes a little time to research this yourself, but I am confident that you can do it.

i think that it just took you more time to write that sentence than it would have taken you to type in the name of a bank of which you aware that waives account fees. I really hope you don't try so hard IRL to be a pain in the ass.

Not the PP, but I think it would take you less time to type in "banks with no fees" into Google than it took to get to the DCUM forum and type in this query. I really hope you don't try so hard IRL to get others to do your work for you, but I suspect you do.

Tdbank is awesome!

USAA does. They also allow you to deposit instantly from home, as long as you have a scanner to scan the checks with. Next best thing to direct deposit.

Mainstreet Bank - local bank in Northern VA.

We're sooooo happy that you and another PP are here to teach us valuable life lessons. It probably feels really good to help others, 'cause an Internet forum is an excellent way to teach.

Or, in addition to her first question, the OP hoped that the thread would spin out a discussion about pros and cons of various banks, and a forum is a great place for that.

USAA has no monthly fee (plus they pay all ATM fees regardless of the bank)

JFCU (Justice Federal) also does not charge a monthly fee

No way would I pay a bank to use my money.

SunTrust for a regular bank or a credit union if you can - Navy Federal, PenFed, etc.

Capitol One, formerly Chevy Chase bank.
Citibank is no charge, if you set up a direct deposit. The deposit doesn't even have to be once a month!

For some banks, if you set up a direct deposit once a month, you avoid some fees. Ask about no balance checking/savings. They have all types of bank accounts.
