Help! Need OB/Hospital Recommendations after many bad experiences~

I left RH and J too , went to a solo practitioner, Russell Bridges, on M St, and have been very happy. MUCH different environment.

I've been happy at Reiter and Hill...they've been extremely attentive and I've only seen an NP for my first appointment. They did a sono on the spot when I asked about leaking amniotic fluid (uh, turns out it was just a little urine...) and I called once with cramps and they got me in two hours later. They are also great about calling me back.

This may be because I primarily get care at the Falls Church office which is probably less busy than DC.

OP, not sure where you live, but maybe the FC office (they have one in MD too) would be a better fit than switching practices altogether? Just a thought.

Thanks to all who responded to my email and concerns. I would rather not name names at GW, but I can say that the doctor I was seeing was not Bathgate or the other one mentioned in this string. I have an appointment at Reiter Hill today with a doctor (gasp!), and will see what happens. Today is make or break day, otherwise, I may try to switch to Perinatology Asso at Fairfax. They are top of their game for anyting remotely high risk (if they will take me). If they don't, I may try the Falls Church office of RH to see if that's any better.

Thank you Moms and advisors, lots of good options discussed!

For the poster who asked about VHC....I've heard many raves about Dr. Piness who delivers there. I think she has her own practice and is somewhat limited on schedule, but I have two friends who are seeing her and just love her.

Anonymous wrote:Fair Oaks OBGYN - Dr Hodges and Dr Zaita. They are gods. Truly. I truly am not a happy pregnant person, and they are patient, wonderful and kind. Dr. Hodges has a softer bedside manner I would say, but Dr. Zaita delivered my first born and she was phenomenal. I don't know that I could have made it through the very difficult delivery without her. I am grateful that one of them will be delivering for me for my second child, because I couldn't trust anyone else! They only work at INOVA Fair Oaks, which is actually a fantastic place too. The staff really likes Hodges and Zaita, and treat their patients very well The post-delivery rooms are all private rooms, so there's no wondering whether you can get one. Seriously, I adore them. Good luck to you.

I completely agree! I love Hodges and Zaita (and formerly Meinig, but he moved!). Great practice, great doctors (named in Washingtonians Best Doctors issue), great staff.

OP--which Reiter, Hill, and Johnson office are you going to/calling? I'm guessing DC.

Have you tried the Falls Church office yet? I always went there even though it was not really convenient because I found it to be almost a completely different practice. Small, I got to know everyone--medical techs, receptionists, etc. Wait time was always decent or short.

When I chose to go to DC because it was more convenient I pretty much regretted it every time.

What an awful awful experience, I'm so sorry. Thank goodness for the internet in order to help share that sort of information with others too! I've used Northern Virginia Ob-Gyn Associates for both of my pregnancies and they've been fantastic, particularly Dr. Glen Silas. I highly recommend them - they've got an office in Falls Church and another in Fair Oaks. They use both Fairfax and Fair Oaks Hospitals (I've given bith at Fairfax both times and have had great experiences). Good luck!

I second Dr. Silas at Northern Virginia OB/GYN associates. I saw him for #1, but he did not deliver me. He is extremely kind and gentle. I also like Dr. Maddox. Dr. Berry has an awkward style, but is very good surgically (saved my friend's life with an emergency C-section and also saw me a couple of times in the L&D triage).

Thanks again for the tips, everyone! The only Reiter Hill office I've been to is DC, which might explain the lack of attention. Maybe I will try Falls Church for my next appointment.

What does anyone think about Perinatology Asso of Fairfax? Any good or bad experiences? They are the high risk group at Inova Fairfax. Has anyone good or bad experiences? How does delivering at Inova Fairfax compare to Sibley?

I'm not a direct patient of them. I also goto Hodges/Zaita and love them...but have been sent to the Peri Assoc of FFX for all my ultrasounds. I've found the doctors to be very distant, clinical and not very hand-holding. Very down to biz. A friend of mine, who was high risk for her baby and under their care for her pregnancy, found them the same...very clinical...not great bedside manner, high medical intervention. But they deal with a lot of high risk stuff, so they need to be.

I wouldn't steer the OP to them starting out. Find a good regular OB that will do you right and if you need to, get a 2nd opinion.

HTH.

I'm going to Perinatal Associates and highly recommend them if you qualify to see them. It's true that they aren't warm and fuzzy but medically they are pretty unbeatable. Head of the practice (Dr. Khoury) is the head or the antenatal testing center at Innova Fairfax -- the only hospital with the level IV NICU in the area. To me, that says it all.

Dr. Khoury delivered my most recent baby. I was high risk, having gone through preterm labor in a previous pregnancy and due to my AMA (over 40).

I agree with pp - they are not warm and fuzzy. I would probably not use them if I were having an uncomplicated pregnancy. However, given my situation I thought they were excellent. I always felt my baby and I were in the best possible hands.

My favorite part: the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck and her heart rate started falling. I said to my DH that I was scared, and Dr. Khoury looked me in the eye and said, "Look at me. I am not worried. I am merely concerned. There is no need to be scared." It was actually very comforting.

She was out a few minutes later and is perfectly healthy.

The problem with RH&J, even in their Falls Church office, is the chance that you might deliver with Dr. Reiter. He's the most chauvanistic, brusque, arrogant doctor I've ever met. He was making fun of the female doctors in his practice when I visited him and I had the unfortunate circumstance of delivering with him. Just totally weird and maladjusted.

I've seen Dr. Khoury for some high-risk related ultrasounds and he was very nice and down-to-business, which is what I like. My main doctor is Karen Maser, who used to be a solo practitioner but now has a partner. She delivered both my babies (via CS) and did a great job. When the nurses were ignoring me in the hospital, she steped in and made sure they gave me the care I needed.
