Live, work, and play : Baltimore, Richmond, or D.C.?

The three choices seem like apples and oranges.

When we were househunting in NoVA last summer, we ran across a house where the neighbor had a bigass Confederate flag hanging on the front of his house. I don't think that was helping this house to sell AT ALL. We wound up buying in the same neighborhood, but nowhere near rude Conferate flag dude (we know he was rude because he came outside and started yelling at us for parking near his house for the 5 minutes we were inside the house with our realtor)

Since Richmond was the Confederate capital, it doesn't surprise me. I definitely agree that anyone who flys a Confederate flag proudly is not someone I really want to know, but it does at least make a small bit of sense in Richmond.

Yeah, that war ended 147 years ago-and they lost. There is no "confederate captial." If that's why they feel the need to fly that flag, they are treasonous.
Time to get over it!

Does your little boy's name start with a B and he's in K? If so, HI I'll see you on Facebook....

Baltimore, Baltimore, Baltimore. Glad to see I'm not alone! No traffic, easy & cheap parking, lower prices for gorgeous old houses.

Nope, I have two little girls.

Wow I thought I'd be the only B'more lover in here! Lived there for 10 years before I met my husband. I wish I could convince him to move down there, but he thinks the sun rises and sets in Bethesda alone.

I pick Baltimore over Washington dc and Richmond Virginia. Baltimore got inner harbor, Washington dc got museum and Richmond Virginia got canal.

Another vote for Baltimore! Cant wait to move there (in a few months).

Richmond, all 3.

Richmond!! And I'm not Southern. VCU has changed the city for the better, putting to rest many of the stereotypes listed here. Houses on Monument Ave for a song (by DC standards), the James, the Byrd & shopping at funky places there, Better restaurants all the time, nice gay community, Museum District, ART...only bummer is smaller job market.

PP - oh, and lack of metro. Seriously thinking about retiring there. Great city, @ 40% less expensive than DC.

Agree that Richmond has a lot going for it but what keeps DC number 1 on my list is the metro.

If Baltimore were as popular in real life as it is on this board, the city wouldn't be empty and destitute. It's the Detroit of the East Coast. Just goes to show how bizarrely this board skews away from the mainstream.
