Really makes my skin crawl to see grown adults use the word "yummy". Like nails on a chalkboard. |
Are you the poster who doesn't like to sign with her finger? |
| Kushi |
| Agree with the Kushi recommendation, but my all time favorite sushi is at Kaz. Try the seared salmon belly nigiri or any of the tuna specialties. The sushi is amazing! |
|
Kushi is quite good -- downtown.
Love Murasaki is great. Always packed with Embassy staff like the PP said. Once we were the only non-Japanese diners in there! If you are going out to the burbs Maneki Neko in Falls Church can't be beat. |

I don't think people read the post. Sushi spots with good special rolls is what the OP is asking for. A lot of the ones PPs have mentioned aren't that so aren't very helpful to the OP.
Try Miyagi in McLean. |
| Kaz. Hands down. |
| Murasaki probably has about 20 or so "special" rolls, and the menu has very good pictures of all of them so you know exactly what you are getting. |
What sushi spots don't have speical rolls? Well besides Harris Teeter? |
| Raku in Dupont. |
Oh yee of little faith! They do these too.

Have you tried OhFish? It is a new place on 19th Street - owned by the Kaz folks. It is semi-automated, but don't let that scare you away. It just means they put the rice on the seaweed by machine.
They make really good (and very large) rolls - and you can choose from the menu or do a custom roll. I love mixing spicy and sweet ingredients - like spicy tuna and pineapple, or crab stick and kimchi. http://www.ohfish.com/menu.html |
| Nooshi in Dupont and Sushi Ko in CC and glover park |
My snobbery? I like rolls as much as the next person, but I can see how my somewhat tongue-in-cheek use of "upscale" came across as snobby. I'll gladly try the rolls at Sushi Ko now that you mention it. But yes, Sushi Taro would say they're too "authentic" for eclectic roll foolishness. |
I was quoting OP, but I agree. Sorry for that. |
