Television on constantly

OP, I'm a DW who hates TV. Like everything else in a marriage, we compromise. DH was totally unaware of the ill effects of TV on babies/toddlers/preschoolers. I had to educate him. He allowed me to control our kids' TV viewing. I am still the parent who tells DH (and occasionally one of the kids!) to turn the set off. I won't lie, it's a constant battle. My ILs have the boob tube on constantly, so they don't get my concern.

My best advice to try to hash this out now as much as possible.

Same here except DH doesn't believe the studies or AAP guidelines for no TV under 2. He had sponge bob on for our 8 month old daughter the other day!!! I was livid but he doesn't care.

Well, in his defense, SpongeBob can be really funny sometimes!

Spongebob is hilarious and sweet. He's such an optimist. Don't be a hater. TV won't harm your snowflake.

My husband is similar and we worked out a solution that makes of both happy.

We do not have TV in the bedrooms or the livingroom. If he wants to watch TV he has to go in the basement (man cave) or the office (attic). The end result is that he does spend quite a bit of time alone with the TV. He also agreed not to expose the kids to "adult TV". After we had our second I compromise a bit and now he can expose to "news" and "sports". Although our 5 yo complains if the channel is not on Nick Jr. so she usually does not stick around.

The good news is that over the years he has watch less and less of it primarily bc he is more engaged with the kids and they have no interest in sitting and watching anything for more than a few minutes.

I didn't listen to doctors when they told me how to give birth. I didn't listen to them when they told me how to care for infant and feed her. Why the fuck would I start caring what a bunch of doctors say about how I entertain her?

Fuck the doctors. They don't know squat. And they certainly don't know MY family or MY child.

No, they are uneducated bumpkins, ignorant about pediatric neurological development.
