It's Not tacky, just cumbersome , redundant and.... Weird.
Why have a bathmat in front of the sink? |
Because otherwise the tile floor sucks all the heat out of my body! |
| We don't have bathmats. They're yucky and collect hair and other debris. We have a tubmat to place on the floor right in front of the shower. That gets hung up after showering for the day and washed once a week. If your DH doesn't like standing on cold tile, have him wear shower shoes/flip flops in the bathroom to slip on after toweling off. |
|
I have bathmat PTSD. I used to have a roommate with a cat who peed on the bathmat. Plus they're just gross and moldy and nasty in general. I also think carpeting in general is disgusting. I have allergies and you just can't clean the things.
Anyway, we don't have a bathmat. We dry off as much as possible before getting out of the tub, so really water on the floor isn't much of an issue. Our tiles have a bit of texture to them. Much less slippery than the tub is. |
I have always had a bath mat by the shower and one by the sinkk. My toilet is separated from sink and tub and I have a mat there as well. Your DH is right about a cold floor and he is right about how ridiculous it is that he has to move bath mat from shower to sink. |
I don't get the part about not being to clean them. I toss mine in the wash with my towels, so they're as clean as the towel I'm rubbing all over my body. |
|
See, I think they're almost too gross to put in the washing machine... and definitely too gross to run with towels.
Have you tried some of the wooden mats out there? They've been recommended to me as options that appear to pick up dirt less immediately. |
| The only thing "tacky" is your inappropriate use of the term PTSD. Don't make light of someone's serious condition. |
|
We step out of the shower onto a white hand towell, towel off, and step into slippers. Hand towel goes into the laundry basket with bath towel. Tidy bathroom.
Mats around the toilet are gross. |
I don't get the point about the dirt. If its not on the bath mat then it is on the floor. Either way you are standing on the same dirt. |
But dirt can be wiped off the floor relatively easily. Textiles trap dirt and are inclined to harbor fungi much more than tiles. Bathmats are dirty for several days, unless you feel like washing them daily. |
I agree about mildew. But no one washes or sweeps their floor daily. It's the same hair, same debris. People just notice it on a bath mat, but it doesn't evaporate on tile. |
Wut.

| OP here-it was fun reading the responses. You guys don't know my husband but he's no shrinking violet. If he wants the bath mat, he will certainly buy one. It was actually a light hearted conversation we were having. I still think it is ridiculous since we can literally stand with our legs out and touch both the sink and shower with our feet. Our bathroom is that small! Kind of like the picture! To the poster who thought I was making light of people who actually have PTSD, I assure you I was not. I don't mind being slammed on DCUM for most things, but I do on that issue. |
LOL. Clearly your bathroom is not that small, or more than one mat wouldn't fit
I don't have any idea about what is tacky, but just either buy a larger one (that goes in front of the tub and sink) or get a second one (if the shape won't allow for it). BTW. I understand your aversion due to your mom's decorating style, but two bath mats do not equate to a doll/dress around the toilet paper. That's a completely different level (I grew up in a house where every appliance had its own handmade cover - which got changed every few years - because - you can't keep the same appliance covers, what would the neighbors think). |
