| I third the big color-in cardboard box things. We have a local toy store in Severna Park (one in Annapolis too) that sells them for $30. Oh and please, PP? A regular cardboard box? For a 9 year-old? On Christmas? Think a little. |

14:40-PP here of the Cardboard Box. yes, I'm thinking. I truly appreciated those. My mom would put out some markers and paints and I'd go crazy.
Coloring inside the lines isn't my thing. An empty cardboard box, with no pre-cut windows, holds so much more possibility. It could be a car. It could be a house. It could be anything. I do think - I think of all the possibilities. |

Either the sled (maybe an inflatable tire thing rather than a sled?) or a pogo stick are good ideas.
The flybar Foam Maverick is selling for around $25 but is sold out at places like Target. It is good for smaller kids (up to 80 or 90 pounds) who can't use the bigger pogo sticks. http://www.outlandusa.com/Flybar_2020_Foam_Maverick_Pogo_Stick_p/FLYB2020.htm?gclid=CKbc3-v3jq0CFYPc4AodSjynlg I found some bean bag chairs at Walmart a few weeks ago for $20. http://www.walmart.com/ip/98-Round-Vinyl-Shiny-Bean-Bag-Large/13269173?findingMethod=rr |

ALso OP, my 9 year old son is really into redecorating his room with a more preteen look.
I went to the local thrift shop and found a few nice, fairly large, framed prints that he would like. They were quite cheap (about $11 each) and modern looking which he requested. Don't knof if that would work for you. |
| OP, just wanted to chime in that we're having the same experience, but with a girl whose younger brother is getting some large things. We spent ages last night talking through the issue, and so far bean bag was the best option... |
The CVS flyer was advertising them for $14 (normally $20). Ours is falling apart and the door is ripped off, but still standing after 1 year! W also cut a large square-sized hole in the roof to let in some light and told DD it was a sun roof. |
|
OP here again.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I love the cardboard house idea...I'd never heard of that before. Will look to see if I can find anything around the $20-30 mark. In the meantime, thanks 15:09 for the Walmart link (don't know why I didn't look there!). They have a video bean bag that will be PERFECT. Ordering now. Thanks again everyone.

I paid $30 on Amazon but my mom saw them at JC Penney for $20! |

I got my son one of those balls with a handle you bounce on. I'm going to blow it up right before X-mas and wrap it.
I also bought some extra hotwheels track and plan to put it in a big box. If you think they would get a kick out of it, my parents used to wrap a box, in a box, in a box. At some age I thought it was hilarious. I'm not sure a 3 year old would really appreciate it. |
Awesome! |
| Those cardboard houses are at bed bath and beyond for like 20 I think...use a coupon and even cheaper. |
I like this. A big house box, wrapped, and an other box inside and another and another and then another item that you already have that you think he will love the best..... |
Rite Aid has them for $20!!!!! |
