| I'm not the 21:52 poster but I live in the area she's describing and I believe she's referring to the areas between Connecticut and Wisconsin Ave between Western and Van Ness roughly. That's the Van Ness/Tenley/FrHeights stops on the red ine and mostly zoned for Murch/Deal/wilson. |
| I dropped by Pentagon City on Tuesday around 10 AM, and I was amazed at how dead it was. Pleasantly amazed, since I was anticipating a nightmare and really just wanted to get my gift card from Aeropostale and get out of there, which I did. |
| Kalorama Triangle. Love it! Diverse, great restaurants and night life on 18th, but far enough away that it's quite and kid friendly, beautiful row houses, amazing diversity, great bi-lingual school, walking distance to public transport so we can live relatively car-free, amazing neighbors and community, lots of kids from DCs class at school within walking distance and even our block. |

OP here. Thanks to the people who wrote about why you like your neighborhood. I wasn't trying to denigrate anyone else's neighborhood. (I don't think of the Pentagon City Mall itself as a neighborhood.) My best friend lives in a high rise in Crystal City (near the mall) with her husband and two kids and loves it. I totally get why it works for their family and understand why they love the neighborhood.
I just wrote the post after a long day where I was feeling good about where I live. I do notice on DCUM whenever someone mentions Capitol Hill, there are people who chime in with the strangest assumptions about it, things that are really wildly inaccurate. I probably have false misconceptions about other parts of the region. So, I was just thinking that we could tell each other what we do like about where we live. Not to be competitive, since each person is looking for something different in a neighborhood, but just to have a chance to say what is nice about the life we have found ourselves in. If we happen to dispell some of the silly myths about neighborhoods in our region, even better. |
Another thing I like about the Hill. Classy people. |

OP, I live in Glover Park and love it, but whenever I visit Cap Hill I can understand its charms. It's so historical and I'm an architecture buff and so I love looking at the old homes. I also love Good Stuff! What I like about GP is its peacefulness, its walkability, and the fact that it's so green with big trees all around. I love that I can walk to Whole Foods and a bunch of friendy non-chain restaurants. I can also be to Dupont in 10 minutes by bus.
What I DON'T GET is suburban people who believe that every neighborhood in the District is crime ridden and dirty. They never visit DC beyond the mall and yet feel free to make judgment calls on all of the city's neighborhoods. They believe everything the hear. Get a life and open your eyes. You might just learn something new for once. |
Please do! so glad you're not in my neighborhood. |
Yes, that's a gorgeous neighborhood. |
Glover Park is a great neighborhood. The only drawback is lack of metro but otherwise I know I'd enjoy living there. |
| Yes, it's weird how this thread started out by asking people to talk about what they liked about their own neighborhoods and some posters ended up running down Capitol Hill. OP didn't ask people to compete and fight over neighborhoods - she just wanted to know what people like about where they live. Starting to make me wonder if there aren't some regular trolls out there who quickly go on the attack whenever they see that someone is extolling their neighborhood because they're so effective at souring what should have been a pleasant thread. |
| Live on the MD side of Friendship Heights. Love everything--ten-minute walk to metro and great shopping, can walk to both whole Foods and Giant, post office, bank, Starbucks, etc. Yet we have a single-family house and excellent MoCo schools and services. |

Nice post OP! I work near the Hill and do enjoy the area. Since entering my 30s and having kids, I'm not so much a city person anymore but do enjoy working downtown and can see why people like living on the Hill and some other neighborhoods in DC.
I love my neighborhood in Silver Spring, near Forest Glen metro. I love that we can live in the burbs and still have only one car, because I can walk to the metro for my pretty short commute. I love that we can walk/bike to downtown Silver Spring using the Sligo Creek trails. I love that we can walk to a farmer's market and two playgrounds, and that there are Christmas carolers out tonight. Lots of young families and a good sense of community. |
