s/o What do the parents of JKLMM give teachers for the holidays?

From a WASPy background, it may (definitely will) feel tacky at first, but once you get past the first class gift, a competitive instinct kicks in. Who wants to be the least generous class, right?

This is news to me, new YY preK parent, but good. When and who collects the money?

Room parent(s), in my experience.

I thought this was a great idea as well, especially given that each child has so many teachers. The suggested donation was fairly nominal, but I personally think that parents that can afford to should give a higher amount as the teachers work very hard and are paid very little. Moreover, it is unrealistic to believe that everyone will give.

I am confused - I thought the M was for Mann / Murch -not Mundo Verde. Did this change?

I think people were just trying to be helpful. They were not claiming to be part of JKLMM.

If it's annoying then why participate?

Of course, we all know why...

Yes. Mann is now a Spanish immersion school. Several Spring Valley residents are now moving to Bethesda.

Why participate if you find it "annoying"?? Ridiculous. Nobody is forced. In a school with 550 kids one family "adopts" each staff member. Unless there are 550 of them, pretty sure you're not being compelled to do it. I mean really. A fun holiday thing that you don't have to engage in. HOW HORRIBLE!!

It's inappropriate for DCPS teachers to receive cash as gifts.

I feel under pressure each time when some parents decide to collect cash for teachers.

I feel free to say no.

our class didn't get its act together (slacker room parents) so i'll be forking out the money for gift cards for the teacher and para-professional....probably just $25 worth at a dept. store tucked into a christmas card.
