Anyone work a retail job for the discount?

My sister did this at Crate & Barrel for a long time, many years ago when she was in her mid-to-late 20's. She had just bought a house, then got engaged, and was setting up the house and spending as if she had both incomes already (she had a demanding Defense Dept job.) She broke off the engagement, and then worked part-time at C & B a few evenings a week and weekends. That way she could work on her debt, keep setting up her house with a hefty discount (a lot of things she bought were what C & B called "schtickel," items that were very slightly damaged that the employees got first crack at at a DEEP discount, like $40 bowl for $2) and use the discount for holiday gifts and the tons and tons of shower and wedding gifts that happen during everyone's mid-to-late 20's.

Counseling. No jobs to be found.

Tough one, PP. You may have to get a Ph.D. Good luck to you!

The thing is, retail really doesn't pay very much. If you need the $ to survive, then of course, just do what you have to do to get a job. But if that's the case, I don't think it makes sense for you to be spending your paycheck on furniture, discounted or not.

I worked at Banana Republic while in college and got 50% off 6 full priced items per month and 30% off everything else including sale. I was probably the best dressed I have ever been in my life during those years

Are you in high school?

I am a SAHM, and I would seriously consider getting a p/t job in REI for a discount!

I had to quit my full-time job (which paid decent, close to 90K) because my kid is special needs and it is hard to find daycare. But if I could swing it, get out of the house for a few hours, why not? I would definitely do it if I was you, OP.
