I was the OP of this post almost two months ago. I ended up ordering the Touch and then going out to Best Buy just to see what the Fire was like. I bought it, and am sending back the Touch. The Fire was just VERY cool in my opinion and I personally love the backlight. I wake up a bit earlier than my DH on weekends and like to stay in bed and read, which was hard before with no lighting. On Sunday I read, made dinner reservations on opentable, and did all kinds of stuff without getting out of bed at all I'm very happy with it!

I got a Fire when it came out last week. I did not have an earlier Kindle. I was actually reading the free samples of books on my iPhone (no iPad), but the screen was just too little. The backlighting doesn't bother me.
So far I love everything about the Fire, except it's heavier than I expected for holding in one hand and reading for a long time. If all you want to do is read, this probably isn't the right product. But for a smallish device that lets you also access the Web and watch videos it's a great deal at 60% less than the cost of the iPad. |
| i got a fire and my speakers on the fritz after a few days. anyone else? there is a static sound coming out of them whenever any audio plays. sigh. |
How frustrating! My concern about the speakers is that turned all the way up, the sound still isn't very loud. I had hoped to use it to watch TV online while on the treadmill, but I doubt I'll be able to hear it with out head phones. |

I spoke to my brother yesterday about Kindle and Nook. I am trying to decide between the Nook and Kindle Fire and my brother has the Kindle 3G and my SIL has the Nook.
FWIW - my brother commented that while he loves his 3G, that moving around on the internet is pretty slow. |

I got my kindle fire last week and I haven't been able to put it down. I am listening to Pandora while reading DCUM. Actually, I have been listening to Pandora all day and carried the fire with me everywhere while I listened the house. I hate headphones and earbuds (I like my hearing) and I can't. Carry the steroids with me up and down the stairs.
Customer service with Amazon has been great. My other kindle's screen cracked and they sent me a brand new one. |

I had a Kindel with 3G and now have the Fire.
Fire Pros: Quick internet access for things like Facebook, the Weather Channel, etc., which is all I really need. I think of it as an iPad lite, which is totally fine. I may someday do the movies, especially since I am already a prime member. Color screen. Fire Cons: Hate the new home screen. I don't want to have to leave through a bunch of stuff that isn't even loaded onto my Kindle before I get to what I want. Three people in my family have them, all on the same account, and I don't want to have to leaf through Magic Treehouse #2,364 to 4,000 to get to my stuff. Hate, hate, hate the backlight. I read myself to sleep every night, and the strength of the light is way too bright. I need to figure out if I can adjust it. I may end up giving my 6 year old my Fire and taking back my original Kindle. |
