Dow Jones plummeting, goverment facing possible shutdown....

I spent the entire day in a government office and no mention of any shut down. We kept doing the jobs you pay us to do.

In fact, I spent the morning interviewing job candidates.

There was no debt commission report. There was an unofficial report produced by the two co-chairman of the commission. The commission was unable to get enough votes in support of a consensus position among its own members to produce an official report. That highlights the difficulty of compromise.

Exactly. It is time for the politicians to ask themselves if they are there for the good of the American people or if they are there for power and their egos.

Sadly I think the majority are there for their egos and the power.

The right decisions are not going to be popular, but it is never going to be fixed if they try and pander to every group out there. We'vfe got to try and get back to a common center, the extreme right and left are not working.

Nothing will change until there is a viable third party that wants to reform the status quo and give government back to the people, not corporations. All money needs to be taken out of the equation, which means we're truly f**ked thanks to the Supreme Court deciding corporations are people too.

No disrespect intended because I'm employed by a public school system, but I do think the security of many government jobs insulates those people from the frustration and agonizing fears that many small businessmen and workers in the private sector are experiencing.

Why would you stop doing your job because it is possible the government might shut down next week? That makes no sense. Of course you should keep working. Did you stop working this summer when they were talking about closing?

Truth is, productivity goes out the window whenever a shutdown is looming. I don't think Feds view this as a real risk right now.

Just when I think it has gotten as bad as it is going to get we seem to continue our downward spiral.

Two words - President Perry.

You think he's going to make it better or worse?

Same reason we had Baker's commission on the Iraq War, I guess.

When was the last time that the electricity went out due to a power generation problem? Maybe California, eleven years ago.

So what did you raise on your family farm, or are you just talking out of your ass?

Good luck hunting and fishing anywhere near a coal mine.
