At what point to Democrats give up on Obama?

That's an extremely narrow view. Personally, I'm better off, but I'm anxious about what's going to happen with the federal budget in the next few years and how that will affect us here, and that has a lot to do with his failures/bad policies.

Maybe everyone you know is better off, too. But there are many millions who are worse off, who have lost their jobs or who have suffered in unemployment for those years. To say that they're all lying or brainwashed is beyond unfair and very callous.

Bush II oversaw a net decline in private sector employment. Now that state/local governments are making cuts, the overall employment picture STINKS.

What assurance do I have that slashing taxes, etc., will lead to private employers starting up hiring again? It sure as fuck didn't happen under Bush II, and isn't happening now (where we're still at the Bush II tax rates.)

are you insane? first, that is a very narrow way to look at a president's effectiveness since so much of what happens to the economy is outside of his/her control. But just answering your question, most americans would of course say "no". what was the unemployment rate in 2008? what were homes worth in 2008? what was the federal debt in 2008? what was the US bond rating in 2008? come on.

Look at all the promises that Obama has made and kept and the progress that he is making,..

He has gotten us cheap affordable health care, is actively pulling us out of Bush's two disastrous wars and has repaired our sullied international reputation, is saving the economy, is investing in Green Energy, has dramatically cut back on the corrupt crony capitalism that was rampant under Bush and is cutting back on all of the terrible 911 civil right violations like the fascist Patriot Act and he will soon close Gitmo.

And, lately he has been moving back to his true progressive roots. The country will soon rally around him. The Repubs don't have a chance...

This is nuts. I raised money for Obama and volunteered for his campaign, and I don't think the answer is yes for most people. My family is better off only because we were poor postdocs in '08. Most I know are worse off. "Are you better off?" isn'teven the right question. There are many disappointed progressives out there (I am one) and getting them to the polls (especially the youngest voters) will be a real challenge.

Dude, it will totally lead private employers to jack up hiring...just NOT HERE! They'll take the money and reinvest it in China or Brazil or India where demand is high (not like in this dump) and labor is cheap. Who needs the US anyway?

How about the question "Would I be better off if McCain had been elected?"

My answer is (a) I suspect the economy would probably not be much different, since it's a world-wide problem, and (b) SCOTUS would be a catastrophe.

So, while I don't think Obama has been great, I don't see anyone on the horizon that I would like to see replace him.
