Who is a Cherokee?

The principle, I would think, is that if people are enslaved, the least they deserve on freedom is citizenship in the enslaving society. And once that is granted, the descendants of those citizens should be treated as the descendants of any other citizens.

Original inhabitants of the land are the ones to whom it belonged. The former slaves or the Cherokee must make their own claim. They are not Cherokee, or American Whites, or Africans.
