| My 2yo has already had 2 bone fractures. One from going down the slide ON HIS DAD'S LAP, and one from me jerking and twisting his arm accidentally while trying to keep him from going into the deep end of the pool head first. So, crappy parents, count me in. |
| OP here.. thank you all for your stories, I've actually been checking this post periodically throughout the day to feel a little less guilty.. My little one's arm is a little sore today but not swollen and she can still move it so she's fine.. I think she might have an ear infection though, because now she's got a fever, said her ears "hurt a little bit" and no other symptoms.. Falling scared her enough where she had a nightmare multiple times last night though, so we didn't get much sleep.. |

At 18 months, my son grabbed a glass ornament from our Christmas tree (surrounded by a gate, mind you, with ornaments way up high - or so we thought) and bit it.
Thankfully, it only cut a tiny part of his top lip. |
Interesting. I've heard that this is dangerous (sliding down with adult) but could never figure out why. Oh well, even if the physics of it don't make sense, lesson learned! Sorry that happened to your little one. |
The butcher knife thing has happened twice now. I can blame my husband both times. |
| OP, I had to laugh when I saw your subject line, because my answer is "hell, yes!! Several times a week!". What you describe does not sound like crappy parenting at all! Don't beat yourself up about it for another minute. |
| we dont put any sharp knives in the dishwasher since DS has been able to unlatch it since he was 15 months. and yes, he waved a knife around and then ran away from me when I tried to get it away from him... Cant seem to find a dishwasher lock.... |
| OP, stop beating yourself up about it. |
| Mine for today: didn't realize my 12 mo old daughter had a fever of 105.8 until we brought her to her long ago scheduled well child check up this afternoon. Sure, I knew she had a fever and was a bit warm, but feel like an idiot for not noticing the smoke coming from her ears. |

My DD rolled right off the bed when she was 6 months old. Nice, right?
And, then later, I gave her the tin foil container to play with. Yeah, that's the one. With the sharp cutting area on the front. DH was like WTF?? (i'm a fool) |
| ((((HUGS))) OP!!! Have I had A crappy parent moment?? For me the plural is needed. Have had many crappy parent momments. I'm sure I have blocked out the worst of it. Have called my ped office sobbing a lot in the past. I recall slamming my son's fingers with a sliding glass door...opening a car door without realizing my daughter was standing right there...Ya know..I'm getting stressed just trying to remember all my crappy parenting moments so I'll stop there. Just want to say you are not alone and you have major competition for crappy mom of the year because I think I am in the lead! |

The worst...probably with my oldest, he fell down when running at 3 yo and complained after that that his shoulder hurt. By the second day we called the pediatrician, who said 'why haven't you taken him to the ER yet???'
I do pride myself at occasionally preventing crappy parenting. Like when DH's friend was swinging #2 (18 months) by his arms, then DH's friend's 1 yo DC wanted in on the fun, so he went to grab one of each's arms so he could swing them both at the same time...and I might have freaked out a little. I did explain it nicely and tried to remain calm but really, why don't pediatricians warn parents about this type of stuff? I only knew it was bad from my coworkers who have dislocated their children's shoulders by swinging them! |
| OP here, thank you for sharing your stories... I'm feeling much better to see other people making the same mistakes that I have.. |

Shitastic Mom that yellled at her scared son here again. I thought of two more monumental moments.
1) When my son was 12 months and my friend's daughter was 1 month, we went shopping and locked our kids in the car. Middle of July in California. She immediately started bawling (the friend) while I ran for security. Lesson learned - never toss the keys to the front seat. Sometimes the remote will automatically lock, or at very least open one door before shutting the other. 2) When my daughter was 10-11 months she rolled off the bed. I was right there. She hurt her foot and didn't put weight on it for seven months. She didn't walk till she was almost 20 months. The ped said she likely remembered the pain, so even once she was "fine" she still wouldn't use her foot. |
