[list]Did I miss something in your post? I don't see anything about Arlington in your thread so how do the responders know where you are considering moving from?

Class sizes in Fairfax County are big. My 5th grader has 28 this year.

19 (I think) in 1st grade class
24 (for sure) in 3rd

Pretty sure 24 is the max for elementary classes in Arlington

Are you sure? This
http://www.apsva.us/cms/lib2/VA01000586/Centricity/Domain/37/revised_12-13-10-2010_2011_class_size_count.pdf

suggests otherwise. (ATS will always be at max capacity -- there's a waiting list, and if someone leaves, someone else comes in, so all classes are at max capacity)

See page 2 of the class planning factors:

http://www.apsva.us/cms/lib2/VA01000586/Centricity/Domain/99/11_Adopted_Planning_Factors_v1_FINAL_to_PRINT.pdf

For neighborhood schools (not choice schools like ATS), max class sizes are higher in the upper grades.

Our principal suggested it was smaller than that for K. something like they create a new class at 23. It seems all 4 classes are right around 19.

My dd's kindergarten was 24 kids last year, with 5 classes of 24. If it's a Title 1 school, they may have more flexibility to keep the classes smaller.

We're in boundary for Nottingham. A fellow parent told me that when she went to the kindergarten open house, twice as many parents showed up as the school was expecting. She said the administration kind of freaked out. Nottingham already has trailers set up. She enrolled her son in private school. I'm hoping things will be a little less chaotic by the time my daughter's in school in 2014; I can't afford my giant mortgage AND private school!

There are other public options for Nottingham parents: ATS, Barrett, Claremont (immersion), and Drew (if the child has Montessori experience). All are great options.
