DC Public and Public Charter Schools
DCPS has it own cap for class size. Charters don't have a class size cap but do have regulations about teacher to student ratios. DCPS classes for PS/PK are small (18 students) with one teacher and 1 paraprofessional. Charters replace the paraprofessional with a teacher or teaching fellow. My child was at AppleTree last year and I liked that they had 1 teacher, 1 fellow and 1 aid (paraprofessional); however, there were 22 kids in the class and my child got overwhelmed by so many people. I also liked Montessori, but 25 kids didn't work either. |
Yes, my mistake--PK4 has 2 with a floating aid between classrooms. |
ELH actually has two teachers (one master and one newly-minted) and one aid. |
