| I tip 10 percent for takeout and feel cheap...now I feel great after reading these posts. |
But it was management's decision to offer take out to customers, who aren't getting any service, and shouldn't be expected to pay for something they aren't getting. It is rude to ask a waiter who relies on tips for income to take this on. Put a bus boy on it since bus boys don't work for tips, they get a collective share of all waiters tips. Another reason never to go to TGI Fridays (as if I needed one). |
| No tipping for takeout. |
| I tip about 10% or a little less on takeout. Tom Sietsema, the food critic for the Post says, "I always tip for take-out and the amount typically depends on the size and cost of my order. For carry-out that costs, say, $20, I'd probably thank the server/bar tender/hostess with a couple of bucks. In anticipation of those chatters who are apt to disagree with me on this matter, let me just say that I like to reward whoever has taken the time to jot down my request, make sure it's correct, throw in the proper utensils and so forth." |
What are you arguing? Wrong or not, that's the way it was done; therefore, I tip up to 15% for take out orders. Whenever I do take out at a restaurant, it is usually a server that takes my order, packages up my meal, and processes my payment. I know how much base salary they make; therefore I choose to tip accordingly. You may tip anyway you like. |
| Takeout shouldn't require tipping. Tips are a convention for table service. |
| This overtiping is getting ridiculous! |
| I tip a couple of dollars. I worked in a restaurant for a short time out of college and take out orders are actually a fair amount of work to package up and most people don't tip even though getting it out the door is actually more work than plopping something onto a plate. |
| 10%. |
On a fast food run, my order will occasionally require me to have to pull over for someone to bring out my order. I don't tip them, nor would I tip any takeout service. |
| Nope (I also worked in a restaurant when I was younger). The only time I tip for takeout service is for the kids scooping ice cream at Cold Stone. |
| Nope, don't tip at take out or fast food drive through. |
| I tip on curbside carryout when they have to walk the food out to my car and I sit in there, waiting for it. |

Usually between $5-$10 depending on how big the order is. It's not like I'm ordering take-out from a really nice restaurant; I don't think my order is ever over $50. I do always tip because I know from experience that take-out orders suck and usually are the responsibility of the bartender or another low-wage employee.
Frankly, I would be embarrassed to walk out of a restaurant without tipping for my food to be packaged. Just like I always tip the valet even if it costs $20 to valet my car because they likely do not see that $20. |
| Nothing. If I have to go get it, I'm not tipping. |
