That comment struck me as very Italian. DH is Italian. I have had a very hard time understanding his mother and sisters. I am from a very WASPy family. This show has totally made me understand his family!

I don't think all Italian Americans act like RHoNJ (I have never seen Jersey Shore) but their family interactions (ESP. Melissa and theresa) point to some sort of cultural thing that doesn't exist in my family. It has caused many problems.

Just watched the show. It seems like Caroline was saying the "sausage" comment out of a place of love, not berating her daughter. Her daughter was the one complaining about her weight and Caroline was trying to let her know that her weight wasn't defining her. I didn't take it the way OP took the comment at all.

Also, I actually want to smack Ashley upside the head. What a rotten teen.
