Another would you buy this house...

It is beautiful from the street. I'm not sure where is the exact location- what neighborhood?

Not knowing anything more, $1M sounds like a good deal compared to what homes of that size/condition/style would go for in N Arlington. But is it close to transit and are the public schools good?

Oh wait... can't afford it anyways. Lovely pics though.

All alleys in DC look like rat havens. It's just life in the big city.

I'm surprised this lasted 30 days before getting a contract - it's beautiful and smack in the middle of AU Park - the "too remote" comment could be because it's further from the Metro than a lot of AU Park, or just because AU Park is too far from downtown for some people. Apparently they did some updates while it was on the market. Love the countertops - says they're granite but they look like marble - have been looking for something like that for my kitchen because marble is too high-maintenance but I want something that's period (19th-century house).

Yuck. At least if the alley were only behind the house you wouldn't be reminded of it constantly.

Yes. Although I'd eventually want to redo the kitchen and bathrooms as I find them to be hideous.

Eh?

Nah. $1 million could get you a pretty fantastic place on Capitol Hill.

I'm not familiar with pricing in AU Park but the house looks fine to me--not luxury, but nice.

Yeah, but it would be on Capitol Hill, and you'd still be sharing walls with the neighbors. We moved to a SFH 3 years ago after years in apartments and rowhouses, and I don't think I could go back to listening to the neighbors' noises.

Yeah, why do that, when you could move to AU Park and listen to noisy, drunk college kids from the comfort of your SFH.

There isn't any foot traffic from the school on our street at all. It's not like Georgetown. Even if there was, I'd take the occasional loud passerby to being able to hear every word of my neighbor's telephone conversation (and I'm sure vice versa) like I could when I lived in a rowhouse.

AU Park= last stop before the 'burbs. It's a "Meh" kind of place, which would bother me a lot more than shared walls.

Foot traffic is an important sign of a healthy, non-"meh" neighborhood.
