I don't see why you give them something, since you already pick up their mail when they are gone.
Keep the wine, but be nice otherwise, and try to forget it. |

I too would be annoyed. They know the drill b/c they ask you to do it several times a year. But when you ask for the same neighborly behavior - they flake. I had a similar situation where I asked a neighbor to keep an eye out for papers and packages, they said yes - no problem - and 3 days into our trip they called to see if they could borrow something.
Right now - let it go. Do not bring them the bottle of wine and be passive aggressive about it. In the future, if it is not a big issue for you to get the mail - do it. When you are out of town, ask them to keep an eye on the house. Maybe give them a piece of paper with your schedule / emergency contacts as a trigger to remind them that you are heading out of town. If you feel they are not reliable for this job - ask another neighbor. |
| For God's sake, just stop your mail next time, then you won't have to worry about your inattentive neighbors. Lesson learned! |
| have the post office stop your mail when you go away |
READ THE POST! She has a mail slot - it was the packages that came that she had concerns about. |
|
People: THE MAIL IS NOT THE ISSUE. STOP SUGGESTING THAT SHE GET THE MAIL STOPPED NEXT TIME. READ FOR COMPREHENSION.
Okay, just needed to get that out of my system. |
| Hey, why not just stop the mail? |
LMAO! |
| I think you're being petty OP. Really, you don't want your children playing with their kids because they might have missed a package? Let it go. |
| OP you are a nightmare. You had friggin house sitters, why would they be expected to check for mail and packages when you had people staying there? So stupid. |

Packages come via the mail very often, hence people suggesting having the mail stopped. If it is delivered via USPS, they will hold it at the post office. I don't know about UPS or Fed-Ex or other private couriers. If you are expecting something (even the possibility of something long overdue arriving), you might want to reach out to those companies and ask about delaying delivery. I realize it may seem snarky, but taking a few minutes to make a few phone calls will help you avoid the situation in the future.
As for the situation at hand, being that you really don't know what happened, it's hard to get upset at your neighbors. Were the packages ultimately okay? If so, no harm, no foul. Move on. No use getting yourself worked up over a possible error on their part. It is just going to cause you unnecessary stress. |

Do you really have to pillory them for one incident of inattention?
I suspect there are other reasons why you want to hold a grudge, otherwise your anger sounds slightly out-of-proportion. Maybe they ask for your help too often? |
| I dunno. Give them the benefit of the doubt? But hey there are limited resources in the world so there are a lot of a**holes out there. |
| OP, I would be irritated too. Some of the PPs don't get that you need someone to take in the random fliers stuck in your door handle, the free local paper that gets throw on the sidewalk, etc. But here I'd just either come out and casually mention it to see their response, or else I'd just try to forget it so it doesn't keep bugging you. |
Why are there so many people on this post who don't know how to read? Baffled. |
