Junie B. Jones - special needs??

I am the mother of a special needs child and I don't find the question the least bit insulting. It's not like she said Junie B. is so stupid she must be retarded. OP's question doesn't come across as judgemental but rather pretty genuine. I find Junie B. Jones to be loud, obnoxious, and not very bright. Her words and phrases are outdated and very immature. Even for a five year old. I think the author has no clue how an actual child speaks.

She calls her Kingergarten teacher "Mrs." because that's the way she rolls, that's all.

I find the books enjoyable to read aloud, unlike those vapid Magic Treehouse books.

My friend is so proud of how many Magic Treehouse books her kid has read. Like they're high literature. She can't believe my DD likes Junie B and Judy Moody. Yes, these have personality, even if Junie B sounds more like a 3 year old than 5.

Ditto.

Asking if someone in the popular culture has special needs is not insulting to special needs kids. Moreover, it is obvious that OP's kids like this book...where is the insult?

What's wrong with Magic Treehouse? My 7 yo has read them all. I'm glad she's reading. She also loves Junie B.

What's your problem? You sound jealous.

"High" literature is usually taught at the HS level, by the way. So our kids have quite a way to go.

Oh dear, now we are going to attack what books other children read? I'll give you a hint: most parents stay far, far away from your kind.

I was just kind of joking about how vapid I find the Magic Treehouse books. I think it's fine for my kids to read them, but they are so boring to read aloud. The Junie B Jones series doesn't bore me as much.
